Welcome to the sale

Welcome to the 2nd Ladies of Windy Knoll Online Female Sale. We would like to start off by thanking all of the breeders from across the country that showed interest, bid, or bought females in our first annual sale. We’ve had great feedback and hope that they continue to thrive in their new homes. Chasing this dream wouldn’t be possible without all of your support. The last year seems to have flown by and brought with it lots of growth and challenges. We’ve moved our fall calving females to winter calving, expanded our ET program and added some exciting donors to our lineup. Our growing season started off very dry and then the rain started and hasn’t really stopped, so getting feed made was very challenging. With that being said, the beef industry is thriving and it’s an amazing time to be involved and increase numbers.

When I was younger, every Saturday morning Gramp would pull up to the barn for his weekly cattle economic debriefing. Not long before he passed away one of those conversations was about quality over quantity, it has stuck with me ever since. With that being said, we wanted to hang onto our fullbloods this year to be able to offer more exciting breds next year so we tossed around the idea of having the sale every two years but decided to do a smaller purebred offering for this year with some genetic lots. That’s where the quality over quantity comes into play. The quality amongst these females runs deep. We’ve selected females that we are confident that will go out and work for you and make tremendous cows and would happily keep any of them ourselves. The headliner for the bred section is one that grabs your attention as soon as you walk in the pen, she’s out of a RF Capacity broody cow that is quickly becoming one of my favourite’s and is an embryo purchased out of the March Madness Sale. The headliner for the open heifer section is an absolute gem and she just keeps getting better. She’s the product of our newest donor, WKF Flirt 24J’s first go at being a momma cow and we think she knocked it out of the park. She comes from a long line of maternal power going all the way back to her Great Granddam, RF Flirt 434B, which is a full sister to RF Merchant. We truly believe that all of these females will make unique breeding pieces and each have something different to bring to the table.

This smokeshow of a heifer came into the world at just 70 lbs just like Guardians are supposed to. She hasn’t ever slowed down and just keeps getting better. She comes from a long line of maternal power going all the way back to her Great Granddam, 434B, which is a full sister to RF Merchant. Her dam WKF Flirt 24J entered our donor lineup this year - she’s super easy doing, flawless footed with an impeccable udder. Her grand dam RF Flirt 824F hasn’t got one wrong yet and we feel that this heifer has the goods to follow in her footsteps. WKF Flirt 75L is also numbered up, being above average in 11 out the 13 traits! This sweet girl is halter broke and one that we think will be very competitive in the show ring next year.

The Xia cow family has done it for us again! Sons have sold to Ranch Macandi ENR, Daniel Paradis, Little H Cattle Co, Collette Livestock and Cinway Simmental Farm to name a few, we have 6 direct Xia 39X daughters in our herd and have only ever let 2 females go out of this cow family to Black’s Cattle Co and Ran Mar Farms. This time it’s a different twist on the sire being sired by the RF No Limits bull that sold for $90,000. Visit dlms.ca and follow the link to the DLMS Farm Gate timed auction site www.farmgatetimedauctions.ca, click the LOGIN/REGISTRATION button. First time users will select the REGISTER button from this page. Fill out the registration form to signup for a free user account and it allows you to select a username and password for use on all Farm Gate Timed auctions. This program will send you text and email messages whenever there is activity on your favorite lots or someone challenges your proxy bid and this is why you will be asked for both your current email and cell phone number. If you are a past participant in the Farm Gate Timed auctions simply enter your username and password to continue. This takes you to a list of both current and upcoming Farm Gate Auctions. You can choose your favourite lots in this sale at this time and the program will allow you to open either all sale lots or just your favorite lots on your screen. Any time there is active bidding on a lot you have identified on your favorite list you will get a text and/or an email noting this activity.

The program allows you to place a proxy bid on any sale lot. This in fact protects your interest in any lot of interest for you to a specified dollar value you set, when you may not be able to give 100% attention to the sale. At closing time of the sale the entire sale will extend bidding if a bid is placed on any lot in the sale. Any bid received after close time will extend the sale by the time listed on each sale. In Most cases the time gets shorter the longer in to extended bidding the sale is. When no bidding occurs for the extended time the computer will declare the sale finished.

Following the sale the Owner or Sale Manager will invoice all buyers in the sale, please contact the seller with questions or to arrange delivery, pick up or shipping of your purchases.

Racehorse style sale close is when the entire sale stays open in extended bidding. This type of sale allows you as the bidder to change to a different lot within the same sale if the bidding has gone in to extended bidding. How Will Extended Bidding Work? When we get to the close out end time the clock for close extends with any bid placed with less than 5 min on the clock. This type of extended bidding turns the end time to more of a soft time. Extended bidding allows bidders to compete in lots like a real auction and give all bidders the same time to make a decision.
