The Gelbvieh breed continues to head in a great direction and as a group of breeders in Central Alberta we are committed to raising Gelbvieh cattle that are relevant and meet the demands of the cattle industry. This sale brings together some of the finest Gelbvieh and Balancer females; each carefully selected for their outstanding quality, performance and genetic potential. Each of us has picked from the heart of our herds and are proud of the females we will be selling this year.
We are very excited to be adding two more consigners to the sale: Hillsdown Gelbvieh and Westcott Gelbvieh. Both of these breeders offer our sale and the Gelbvieh breed a lot of good things and we are glad to have them part of the team this year.
One thing that each of us in the sale knows is that the most important part of this industry is the people in it. So we want to thank each of you, our fellow cattlemen. It’s only because of your support and friendship that this sale is even possible. There’s some great days ahead in the cattle industry and it has been encouraging to see record prices continue this year, and we are excited to see these elite genetics contribute to your program and bring lasting value to your cattle operation and the Gelbvieh breed.
We look forward to the conversations in the weeks ahead. Please reach out to any of us to discuss any of the cattle in the sale. The cattle will all be at the central location of Cowlick Ranch starting November 1 so feel free to stop by and view the cattle anytime!

They say when opportunity knocks on your door… you better be ready! ULL Miss Pretty 50B is the type of cow any program could appreciate. She is incredibly sound, square-made, with enough mass and fleshing ability that doesn’t ever change year-round. She has great feet, suburb udder quality and is easy to work with. We purchased her Sire FRL Manning 722Z, knowing that he would make special females. 50B has a daughter ULL 126G currently working in our herd and has raised an incredible bull calf this year. She also had a son, ULL Flint 14F who has sired several females for us and is also the sire of the HL Firestick bull we own with Severtsons. Cowlick Ranch is also using an outstanding young sire 50B son Kane 116K as well. We have flushed 50B successfully. There are several ET calves in the bull pen and a pretty darn good heifer in the replacement pen. 50B has a lot of calve ease so breeding her to bulls with some jam seems to click. Her exciting mating to RWG Horse Power could possibly be the best calf from her yet in 2025. She sells in her entirety with no strings attached. We are looking forward to her new future!
Observed bred to RWG Horse Power on April 22nd. Preg checked safe.

ULL Linda 23M is an impressive black, complete-made heifer, as are all the Horse Power calves. Her dam, a personal favorite around here, was purchased from Hurlburt’s, as we wanted a piece of the proven Linda cow family. Stout, bold-ribbed, great uddered and free moving, are traits 23M will pass along. Buy this one with confidence. Homo Polled & Homo Black.

ULL Miss Mia 36M is another deep-made, red, solid Horse Power daughter. You have to admire the hair coat and thickness of body throughout, on this balancer female, while still maintaining that feminine presence. Her dam was selected from Ter-Ron based on proven cow families for our balancer program. 36M is a great building piece to breed up with because a lot of the work has been done already. She’ll make good ones!

ULL Miss Journey is a stylish black female that just grabs your attention. She looks very similar to her ULL Flint sired dam that has just put another heifer in the replacement pen again. The G-Man/71X plus the 50B influence guarantees udder quality and calve ease… maternal traits that run deep in her pedigree. The mating of 6L to FRL Hennessy 711H should be very exciting, adding length and hair.
AI bred to FRL Hennessy 711H on April 19th. Preg checked safe.

ULL Savanna 27L is a very quiet and nicely put together red female with a great foot structure and she is already preparing a super correct udder. We have several Road Trip daughters, and they are all solid producers. Her dam 6J was purchased as a feature calf in the Function & Finesse Sale and a sister, commanding a lot of attention, just sold this October. A very cool mating to HL Firestick should yield profitable results.
AI bred to Cockburn Confidence on April 21st. Pasture exposed to HL Firestick on May 9th. Preg checked favoured to HL Firestick.

CLR Linda 70L is a beautiful bred heifer that we have really enjoyed watching develop over the summer and we can tell you she is not an easy one to let go of! This heifer has a lot to offer. She’s fancy with a beautiful front third, she has great hair, and when you see her in person you will really appreciate the volume and massive rib that she offers. She’s an outcross pedigree coming from a great sire in BGGR Under Fire 0051G. We were very impressed with the udder quality and production of Under Fire’s first set of daughters that calved this past year. Linda is also backed by a great dam in JM Crown Royal 8C. This cow still looks great, and is one of the easiest fleshing cows on the farm and remains very productive at 9 years of age. Besides being a functional cow, Crown Royal even has a few banners to her name, one being the Junior Champion Female at Farm Fair in 2016! 70L is not just backed by good genetics, she’s also bred for success on year 1! We were fortunate to get the opportunity to work with BNH Livestock and get the early season walking rights to BNH Dream Katcher 1K; a bull with a reputation that speaks for itself! This mating should make for a very exciting calf and a quick return on investment.
Observed bred to BNH Dream Katcher 1K on April 13th. Preg checked safe.

CLR 53L Lucy might be one of the most powerful and exciting SLC Viper 59GET daughters we have raised to date! She’s a dark cherry red, powerfully made heifer and is definitely a brood type cow in the making. SLC Viper 59GET has been a very impactful bull for our program; his daughters are always fancy, eye appealing cattle and we have not seen one with a bad udder. Lucy is backed by a strong JM cow family as well. Her grand-dam JM Amber 94A was a key cow in the Jace Cattle program and she has many daughters in production. Lucy herself is sure to live up to the standards of this cow family and has all the pieces to be a functional, productive cow that will we able to raise the types of both bulls and heifers that the cattle industry needs. Here’s another chance to get a Gelbvieh female that is bred to “Katcher” the 2023 Reserve National Champion bull!
Observed bred to BNH Dream Katcher 1K on April 13th. Preg checked safe.
Here’s the only heifer calf that we will be offering for sale this year. CLR Ms Gabriel 62M is a good one, backed by great genetics on both sides of her pedigree. She’s soft made, has nice extension, and good length. She’s got a powerful presence about her but at the same time is very feminine and fancy. A big thanks to Royal Western Gelbvieh for giving us the chance to purchase a piece of RWG Horse Power H311. He did not disappoint us on the first set of calves for us this year and we are very excited to watch both his daughters and bulls develop through the winter. 62M is one of the top heifer calves from this sire group and has caught our eye since day one. The dam of this heifer, JM Gabriel 1G, is one of our favourite cows from the Jace program; she’s a beautiful productive SLC Merv 12N female. With this fancy heifer calf we can go back yet another generation and see some impressive longevity and production in her genes as well. Her Grandam, JM Zulie 68Z, an ATC Gold Star 5D daughter, is bred back early yet again this year for her 12th calving season! Ms Gabriel is an exciting future breeding piece and we look forward to following her success wherever she ends up.

The Destination Female Sale Group has decided to join forces and host a bull sale next spring..

Live at the Olds Cow Palace
Maya 16M is the first animal to be marketed out of the brand new Hillsdown Gelbvieh 2.0 breeding program, and we are excited to be part of the Destination Female sale. She is the first embryo calf born out of a flush we did on Twinview Baha 20J ET. We flushed her to HDG Finnegan 4F and she gave us 25 grade 1 embryos on the first flush. Maya comes from an impressive pedigree, and it shows. She really is a feast for the eyes, and moves fluidly on very correct feet and legs. At 5 months old at the time of this writing, she already starts to show that deep broodiness that we like to see in a replacement female. Her dam, Baha 20 J ET, was the high selling female in the 2022 edition of the Function and Finesse sale. After a bit of a rough start, she is now raising and absolute ripper of a heifercalf sired by RWG Just to Cool. She turned into great momma cow with one of the nicest udders you’ll ever come across. Of course, Finnegan 4F needs no introduction. You are looking at a potential donor candidate down the road, stacked with maternal qualities, docility, growth, great feet and legs and lots of milk. Calving ease is built in with and EPD of 16. Her EPD profile is impressive.
ARE STORED AT Davis-Rairdan Embryo Transplants ltd.
Her recip dam is no slouch either. She is a Simmental Red Angus cross commercial cow. We purchased her as an open heifer, along with 13 others. For her first calf she was pasture bred to a gelbvieh bull, and did an exceptional job. For her 2nd calf we implanted the embryo that resulted in Maya 16M. This year she is pasture bred to RWG Hashtag for a May 2025 calving date. We are offering the following options, since a May born calf won’t be weaned until January 2025.
Option1: buy the calf, we’ll keep her here until weaning and then deliver to the new owner.
Option 2: Purchase the calf along with her recip dam for an additional $ 6500. As mentioned, she is pasture bred to one of the breed’s leading sires for a 50% gelbvieh calf, and she’ll be around for years to come as a proven recipient for your purebred embryos.
For a second lot in the Destination Female sale, we are offering 5 embryos of the same genetic combination, Finnegan x Baha 20J ET.
