2015 Sponsorship I nform ation For nearly a decade, Music Theatre of Madison (MTM) has brought professional, lesser-known musical theatre pieces to Madison, WI. We have presented 10 Wisconsin premieres of musicals that were successful in large markets but hadn't been presented in Madison. We have hired and compensated hundreds of local actors, directors, musicians, crew, and designers. "Energetic ...M agnetic...Excellent." We have partnered with numerous local - T he I sthmus on Bonnie & Clyde organizations such as The Goodman Center, Best of the Arts 2014 The Jewish Federation of Madison, Madison Public Libraries, and more to provide outreach programming and talkbacks with experts from all over the country. We've done all of this while keeping our prices affordable, allowing as many people as possible to experience thought provoking musical theatre and see the endless possibilities the genre has to offer. MTM's mission is unique to Madison and very rare in the United States as a whole. 2015 brings a series of new initiatives, including ?Pay What You Can? performances, readings of new musicals, and performances in unconventional locations. MTM has a history of repeated support from area businesses such as Van Wagner and Wood, CUNA Mutual Group, Orange Tree Imports, Door Creek Orchard, and Alliant Energy, as well as in-kind support from Neider & Boucher, Yelp, Electronic Theatre Controls, and Quarles & Brady. Each of these organizations has found MTM to be good exposure for their business and a good illustration of their commitment to innovation in their community. We are also M T M Staff: Jo Chalhoub, Erin M cConnell, fortunate enough to have been supported by Dane M eghan R andolph, and Catie O 'D onnell Arts, the Madison Arts Commission, the Wisconsin Arts Board, and The John & Carolyn Peterson Foundation in past seasons. Read on for more details, on how *** can benefit from supporting Wisconsin's home for new, cutting-edge musical theatre.

O ur M ission and H istory Music Theatre of Madison (MTM) strives to challenge, educate, and enrich audiences by presenting lesser-known, seldom-performed musicals that illustrate thought-provoking subject matter. In addition, it strives to provide a quality professional outlet for artists in south central Wisconsin and beyond. The company was founded in 2005 by Meghan Randolph, with its first production mounted in the summer of 2006. In nearly ten years of operations, MTM has presented 23 productions in over 100 individual performances. 16 of the productions were Madison premieres, 9 of which were also appearing for the first time in the state of Wisconsin. MTM has obtained grant support at the city, county, and state levels as well as from private foundations. Hundreds of thousands of dollars has been paid out to local artists at rates competitive with other larger local professional theatres. The company has hosted 5 guest speakers from across the country, performed in a series of venues large and small, and been included on the Best of the Arts lists in 77 Square and the Isthmus in 2011, 2013, and 2014.

Orange Tree Imports quote

""M T M accomplishes its m ission gloriously." - 77 Square on T he Glorious O nes Best of the Arts, 2011

You help us, we help you! - We reach audiences outside typical theatergoers. Our audiences often attend because they have an interest in the subject matters of our shows, or a relationship with an unconventional venue we perform in. - 70% of our audience is 18-45. We reach a young demographic with interest in cutting-edge ideas and an appreciation for innovation. - Our patrons have demonstrated loyalty. Over the past three years, our audience has grown by over 200%. We are continuing to reach new segments of Madison and are retaining more patrons with every show.

About O ur M arketing Plan MTM believes that marketing our weird shows is a matter of thinking outside the box. Posters aren't going to cut it. We have to get creative! Surveys of audiences have found that our patrons are learning, discussing, previewing, and purchasing predominately online. In response to that, MTM has developed a series of online marketing initiatives, including "I can't remem ber having more fun at a rehearsal videos, live tweets, postings M adison show all season. " of articles to social media, online - T he I sthmus on Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson, ticket giveaways, online trivia contests, e-mail marketing, and Best of the Arts 2013 personalized memes. We've done live performances, costumed characters walking around the Farmer's Market, randomly placed coupons, and initiatives for collecting postcards.* We also use the media. We have great relationships with 77 Square, The Wisconsin State Journal, The Capital Times, Isthmus, Madison Magazine, Channel 3, WORT, the Wisconsin Gazette, and the Mic 92.1. All of these outlets have given us feature write-ups, interviews, blog postings, and reviews.

O ur Target M arkets MTM typically serves a younger audience looking to step outside of the traditional definitions of musical theatre. Our demographic:

"Beautifully sung...a delight." - T he I sthmus on Edgar Allan Poe's Nevermore

- Is typically between the ages of 18-55 - Hears about our productions through social media marketing and word of mouth - Has a bachelor's degree or is currently pursuing one - Orders advance tickets online (rather than by phone) or buys them at the door Due to the nature of our work, MTM's shows attract many college students from UW-Madison, Madison College, and Edgewood College, providing MTM with a rare sponsorship benefit: The ability to reach a young, college aged audience through theatre. We also use many students and faculty from those institutions on creative teams for our shows, drawing even more of the college crowd!

M T M I n T he Com munity MTM's goal for 2015 and beyond is simple: Make our work as financially accessible as possible. Ticket prices for MTM shows have never reached higher than $25. A recent survey of the theater going public in Madison indicated that many Madison area companies' ticket prices are cost prohibitive. In answer to that, MTM has begun to make strides towards financial accessibility for our patrons, including ?pay what you can? performances and discounts for certain days and age groups. MTM is finding a balance between successful company financial management and keeping theatre affordable and available to all. While doing this, we are also using careful financial oversight to ensure that our artists are paid for their time and talent, and that our productions are a model of excellence in every way. Free and low cost initiatives in 2015 include: - Three ?pay what you can? performances of mainstage shows - Three free readings of new musicals at the Central Library, Wisconsin Public Television, and the Frequency. - Three ?pay what you can? special events - New student and weeknight discounts - Free gallery exhibition at the Goodman Center during the month of May, corresponding with our Midwest premiere of 35MM: A Musical Exhibition.

?Our business is proud to support MTM, a creative, innovative, professional theatre company. We believe that the arts are key to a thriving, well-rounded community, and professional companies like MTM are the core of that key. In addition, their commitment to producing new and lesser-known works falls very much in line with our own commitment to providing a one-of-a-kind service to Madison and beyond. Many new customers have come through our doors because of MTM, and we couldn't be more proud!? -Tom and Gretchen Griffith Owners, Door Creek Orchard

Additionally, MTM has begun performing at unconventional locations such as the Brink Lounge, the Frequency, and the Goodman Center in hopes of attracting new audiences who may not otherwise attend a musical. We believe that making our work more financially accessible is a long term investment to help grow our audiences, donors, and presence in the Madison community. We do this "Strikingly effective." while maintaining our commitment to M adison M agazine on H ostage Song compensate each artist who works on our shows. MTM is making great strides in the cultural ecosystem of Madison!

2016 10th Anniversary Season MTM began as a pipe dream in the mind of its 23-year-old founder, Meghan Randolph. In 2016, after 25 shows, 16 Madison premieres, 9 Wisconsin premieres, a Midwest Premiere, a World Premiere, 6 Miscast concerts, 5 Music Theatre Idols, thousands of people reached, and hundreds of thousands of dollars paid to local professional artists, MTM is a decade old...and a whole lot smarter. Starting our second decade is an exciting honor that we take quite seriously! We plan to continue growing, adding new programming, and reaching new people.

O pening night of M T M 's first show, an outdoor production of H air, July 2006

Here are a few things we have planned for 2016 and beyond: FROM THE VAULT: For ten years we've focused on contemporary musical theatre pieces that are rarely performed. But there are dozens of great pieces from the Golden Age of musical theatre that were beloved and celebrated, yet are now rarely performed. MTM plans to bring these musicals back in concert form, featuring full orchestrations. 2016 will kick off the series with Funny Girl, a title well known due to the 1968 film, but rarely performed on stage. FESTIVALS OF NEW MUSICALS: For years, MTM has received submissions from the many emerging composers throughout the country, hoping that we'd consider producing them. Beginning in 2015, MTM plans to hold a semi-annual Festival of New Musicals, which will feature readings of brand new shows performed by local professionals in unconventional locations. Madison audiences will have the opportunity to give feedback to composers as they continue to work on their pieces, helping Madison to continue growing as an important cultural hub. MIDWEST PREMIERES: Beginning in 2015 with 35MM, MTM plans to have at least one Midwest premiere each season. 2016 will bring the midwest premiere of Polly Pen and Victor Lodato's tightly packed Arlington, a whilrwind one woman show about a soldier's wife. It is important to MTM that we be a force in the cultural landscape of the midwest, providing Madison and beyond with the opportunities to see great new works as they make theiir way from little known shows to contemporary classics. NEW VENUES: MTM is excited to begin working in new Madison area venues and growing our use of state of the art technology and design elements to compliment the strong artistic work we already produce. It is our hope that these new venues make our shows even more accessible and visible to Madison's vibrant arts audience. THURSDAY NIGHT CABARETS: Join us at Lakeside St. Coffeehouse a few times each year for laid back, funny cabarets with a quirky MTM twist.
