Profile My passion for design stems from my curiosity about the world around us and how we interact with it. This motivates me to be constantly seeking a better understanding of how and why we design. After living in several different cities, I’ve learned to remain open to new people and experiences as exposure and empathy has and will continue to mold me into a better designer.

(y)our Table (y)our Table was an individual project completed in the first eight weeks of my forth year of undergraduate studies. I was prompted by PAVE and Kroger to develop an innovative, visual merchandise fixture to house hot and/ or chilled “on the go fresh prepared foods and submit my design in a bound booklet, not to exceed 12 pages, not including the cover page.

Grocery shoppers are experiencing a conversion towards healthier options using fewer and fresher ingredients. Knowledge of the food origin and process has become a focus as society purges harmful additives, questions corporate practices, and promotes a “do it yourself culture.

Pre-Measured Meals

Meal Options

Pre-measured meal packages are available to shoppers to take home to prepare gourmet meals with ingredients included from Simple Truth.

Recipes are displayed on screens so shoppers quickly swipe through the available meals without pulling anything from the shelves. Similar meals are situated near each other on the shelves so that the instructional screen points out where the box meal is to the shopper. The screens also provide insight to which meals have been most popular for fellow shoppers.

The meal packages come in two sizes: family portion and couple portion. Meal options are inspired by recipes submitted by community members to nurture a sense of authenticity and local ownership. The pre-measured packages by (y)our table connect to Kroger customers convenience, education, engagement, and control. Shoppers explore new dishes and techniques in the comfort of their own home. Recipes and meal boxes options change seasonally to match which foods are freshest to the area. Locals are encouraged to submit their own recipes to be featured at (y)our table.

Recipes are sent to the shopper via email or text message from the screen so there isn’t any paper waste or misplacement. The recipe includes a link to a step-by-step cooking instruction video so the shopper has a visual aid while they cook at home.

Suggested Wine or Beverage Pairing The interior of the fixture merchandises wine and beverages to pair with the current meal package options. Shoppers are encouraged to buy these to compliment the tastes of their soon to be prepared meal. Specific wines and beverages are suggested, but shoppers also have the option to choose based on their own preference.

Floral Compliments Assembled bouquets of seasonal flowers are displayed around the take home meals. Flowers add a convenient decoration element to create the perfect atmosphere for a comfortable and well crafted dinner at home.

Local Recipes and Food Magazines The lower shelves are stocked with local recipes, magazines, and books for customers to purchase additional inspiration. These materials provide a connection between shoppers and many local diverse cooking techniques and opportunities. Shoppers can continue to advance their food choices and purchases based on healthy ingredients and seasonal options.

Engagement Our Table becomes (y)our table at Kroger Marketplace. This active space provides opportunities for customers to engage and learn about food and preparation processes. A Kroger chef is available at set hours of the day to demonstrate cooking techniques and practices used in the fresh and warm prepared food options. Flowers and beverage coolers are built into the table to accompany the foods being prepared. When the chef isn’t there, the table acts as a communal space for shoppers to stop and enjoy the ready and prepared food options. Shoppers in a hurry or unable to prepare their own home gourmet meal still have the chance to experience the recipes submitted by local community members prepared by Kroger.

Clifton literary Center The Clifton Literary Center was an individual project completed at the beginning of my second year of undergraduate studies. I was prompted to design the program, architecture, and interior of a library to be located in place of a parking lot on a popular street, Ludlow Ave., half a mile north of my university. I presented my design proposal after three months of research and design by showcasing the research, proposed plans, sections, elevations, renderings, and physical model to a jury of professors and designers.

Site To begin my design process, I spent time at the prompted site to understand the context and the demographics that would respond a new literary center. After a week of site analysis, I began placing observational data into diagrams to influence the construction of my first study models.

LAYERS

Structure I was inspired by the repetitive nature of bookshelves in libraries that can feel overwhelming and powerful upon entry. I wanted to promote that sense by pulling the bookshelves through the floors and then creating an atrium to connect the levels. The

bookshelves became the main structural system to allude to the importance of literature in education. When a member enters on the ground level the ceiling is relatively low until they reach the main stacks, where they will be welcomed with views vertically to the skylight as well as to the lower level.

AXIS

SUBTRACTION

Form The two roadways bounding the building site generated the axis shift that occurs at the center of the building. Every wall and object on the east side follows the street angle running in front of the building, but at the axis everything aligns back to be parallel with the back street. The west side was then stepped back to bring light back into the space and create

smaller interior reading niches with views

to the park. There is also a terrace accessible from outside the ground floor entrance to become additional outdoor seating to Ludlow Ave. and library members.

Level three

Program Lower Level: Designed to hold large functions within auditorium, structural book stacks, rooms for storage/staff offices, and open study tables. Ground Level: Entry to library and cafe, bathrooms off to the right, kid’s section, and structural book stacks. Level Two: Outdoor seating accessible from the street or the library, large collaborative seating, and structual book stacks. Level Three: Exclusive spaces for private studying, and structural book stacks.

Entry The entry to the library allows the patron to choose to either continue past the front desk and into the main space of the library or turn left into the cafe area near the front window. If the member continues to the stacks, they will be greeted with a colonnade

of available literature.

At the end of the atrium space, there is a large monumental stair to force

circulation to maneuver around the stacks before ascending or descending to the other levels.

“sit Upon” The “Sit Upon” was an individual project completed in two weeks during my third year of undergraduate studies. With a single 2”x 6” plank of pine wood, I was prompted to design

and build an object or furniture piece which could be used as a seat.

Body Mantle The Body Mantle was a project done individually by all design majors in their first year of undergraduate studies. The prompt was to create a sculptural piece formed from one

hundred objects and one connection method that could be worn.

Hospitality My second co-op experience with Gensler Architects’ Hospitality studio was mainly focused on a large, confidential resort in South America. I worked as a part of a large team across two Gensler offices on the design and construction documentation, spatial arrangements, finish details, and client presentations for the guest rooms as well as public spaces.

InDesign | Revit

GUESTROOM The guest room matrix played a large role in the work I contributed to with the design team. We had to remain flexible to new developments by the architects. Between documentation, I helped to develop renderings for client meeting presentations.

HOTEL RETAIL This space exists to allow any brands that may have an interest in occupying a retail space within the hotel. I worked with the designer to set up the fixtures and changing rooms to support the best circulation for shoppers and code.

HOTEL SPA After a readjustment of the exterior shell and structure of the building, the spa had to be divided into separate spaces. One area was meant to be a longer experience while the other is meant for expedited service. I spatially organized the new area to hold all the necessary functions and relate to the other space across the hall.

Workplace : AIG My first co-op experience with Gensler Architects’ Workplace studio was mainly focused on a single AIG location in Olathe, Kansas. I worked as a part of a 2 person design team on the design and construction documentation, spatial arrangements, finish details, material selection, lighting specification, and client presentations for the renovation of the entire site.

OFFICES VS CLAIMS LAB One of the major phases of this project included the introduction of the “Claims Lab” into AIG’s business model. They wanted a space more suitable for their employees who work outside of work to come in and have a temporary

desk. This space also removes a sense of

hierarchy between managers and employees as they all work in the same environment.

Pantry The pantry area was designed to be an area of relaxation while providing opportunities

for coworkers to intermingle.

AIG standards are to create spaces that relate to their brand but we were tasked with editing the existing AIG standards and replace some of the either outdated or unavailable finishes.
