Views to outside Creates visual stimualtion and sense of balance and direction in Hypo and hyper sensitive repectively. Student spaces Visual Simulation must be controlled to increase attention span

Corridors

1.5m to 2.25m is a must

01. Visual Stimulation

Therapy Spaces High sensory and low sensory therapy areas

Landscape considerations Landscape pockets for outdoor theraphy

Classroom spaces High focus and concentration zone should have minimal distractions

Open plan circulation with internal courtyards and sunken courts

Waiting spaces

Waiting spaces usually cause anxiety thus views to outside must be provided.

Parent Wing

Family friendly spaces for counselling and combined learning

02. Sensory Zoning

Each building has assigned function. Buildings are divided into low sensory and high sensory area N

Master Plan and Landscape Design

03. Motor Skills Stimulation North Elevation

Level differences and slopes are included in the design concept to help exercise the motor skills

Acoustics: High Sensory Zone

Acoustical control to be minimum or in normal range to help stimulate the senses

Compartmentalization

Each compartment include a single and clearly deďŹ ned function and consequent sensory qualityway circulation whenever possible.

Acoustics: Low Sensory Zone

Should be allowed a higher level of acoustical control to keep background noise, echo and reverberation to a minimum.

Spatial Sequence

Spaces flow as seamlessly as possible from one activity to the next through one-way circulation whenever possible.

Escape Space

Neutral sensory environment with minimal stimulation that can be customized by the user to provide the necessary sensory input.

Transition Zone

Working to facilitate both Spatial Sequencing and Sensory Zoning, the presence of transition zones help the user recalibrate their senses as they move from one level of stimulus to the next.

The Manipal Institue of Film Studies and Communication at the Manipal University is the ďŹ rst institute of such kind in over Seventy years. The design is based in the regional and topographical context of Manipal, a warm and humid place with rich ecosystem with the proportioned harmony of forms bounded around nature, encouraging a dialogue between the two. It focuses on the functionality and circulation, creating a brand new experiences for the users every day. Interwoven and fluid spaces encourage the students to have an exchange of ideas & opportunities to interact, learn & relearn.

Section through the site

The new school campus creates within the municipality a place with its own identity. The community character of the building is visually supported by a public library situated in an exposed corner facing the village. The school is set in a mellow slope and the design works with different floor counts facing the entrance area on one side and the school grounds on the other one. The large building is divided into several structural volumes to adapt to the scale of the neighbourhood at its most.

ACADEMICS HEBRI HIGHER PRIMARY SCHOOL Concept

HHPS, aims not only to improve the design of the school in the area, but also reconnects the primary teaching area of the site to the natural landscape around it. The greenery and courtyard can be viewed through large sized windows from the classrooms, thus achieving harmonious and a manifest integration of learning and living space.

Location

Hebri, Udupi district, Karnataka

Design Requirement

4 Classrooms - Primary school 6 Classrooms - Higher primary school 6 Class rooms - High school 4 Class rooms - Pre university school 4 Laboratories - Physics, 2 Chemistry, Biology Indoor play area for primary school kids

The interior is designed as "learning landscape“, a light-flooded fluid space that creates naturally deďŹ ned zones of different privacy levels according to space use. The building is also used for afterschool activities and as a community center which is well reflected in the designed quality of common spaces both visual and functional. The heart of the school is theassembly hall situated in the central building. This multifunctional space continues into the entrance foyer and thanks to ingenious floor plan can be turned into an auditorium with a stage placed near staff unit.
