WAYS TO BE HAPPIER
TODAY
True fulfillment seems like a lofty— and perhaps unachievable—goal, but reaching it can be as simple as making every day a little bit happier. One small step, one day at a time is all you need. For each of the next 31 days, I encourage you to weave one of these action steps into your day. The suggestions may seem small but they are powerful. Even if you boost your happiness by only one percent each day, that joy will grow exponentially over time. Very quickly, you’ll see how the smallest, simplest actions can truly change your life. I believe in you and want to drive you to appreciate and explore your infinite
potential. It’s time to move forward, take action and discover how to be happy today—not tomorrow or next year, but today. At the conclusion of the 31 days, take some time to reflect on how your life has changed. Which actions had the greatest impact on your happiness? Which ones will you continue to integrate into your life moving forward? Commit to happiness one day at a time—and those happy days will become happy weeks, months, years, and ultimately, your happy life.

ONE SMALL STEP, ONE DAY AT A TIME IS ALL YOU NEED.
FF Spend time in nature. Drink in the beauty of the earth, the sights and sounds that surround you. FF Send a handwritten note. Show your appreciation, send your well wishes, or simply say hello. FF Take a nap. Rest is good for the body, mind and soul. FF Go on a hike, run, walk, or do some form of exercise. Get moving. Make your heart beat a little faster, a little harder. FF Smile. Even if you don’t feel like smiling, the physical act can generate happy feelings. FF Reach out to a friend you haven’t spoken with in a while. A phone chat or a coffee date will give you a chance to reconnect. FF Envision for five minutes. Picture exactly what you want to happen. FF Give a hug. Hold on for at least five full seconds. FF Write down five things you are grateful for. Start a gratitude journal or just scribble on the back of your to-do list.
ACCEPT COMPLIMENTS GRACIOUSLY
FF Donate to a cause or company that is creating a positive impact. Support others who are doing good. FF Volunteer locally. Get involved and give back to your community. FF Recycle as gratitude for the planet’s resources. Contribute to the future. FF Accept compliments graciously. Don’t put yourself down; say thank you. FF Give compliments genuinely. Brighten someone’s day. FF Talk about what you are grateful for with family. Whether you’re gathered around the dinner table or conversing over email, share your blessings with one another. FF Celebrate! Big or small, recognize your accomplishments, anniversaries, and achievements. FF Give a generous tip for outstanding service. Acknowledge those who go above and beyond. FF Be present — get out of your head and practice gratitude by valuing the moment you’re living right now. See, hear and feel all the good. FF Give a gift; send a gift; hand-make a gift. Surprise someone with a special treat. FF Bless your meals and give thanks for the food that nurtures your body. It gives you strength for life’s journey. FF Write a positive public review. Share your good experience with others.
PRACTICE GRATITUDE BY VALUING THE MOMENT YOU’RE LIVING RIGHT NOW. FF Say thank you always. Say it in an authentic and meaningful way. FF Pay it forward by giving out the kindness you received to someone else. Pass on the gratitude. FF Call your parents. After all, they gave you this beautiful gift of life. FF Fill out a compliment card. Let someone know how much you appreciate what they do. FF Pick up the bill when you’re out with people you care about. Celebrate the opportunity for quality time together. FF Pray. Spend time in conversation with a higher power. FF Text someone a personal note of appreciation out of the blue. It takes less than a minute. FF Honor the success of others as you do your own successes. Applaud a job well done. FF Go the extra mile. Show your support or lend a hand. FF Meditate. Be still. Breathe slowly, deeply, fully.
