FROM THE PROLIFIC HEAD Vinolia Lobo A new year rings in many things – new resolutions , new innovations, but above all, new life – which is reflected by the bonding of two hearts that partake a new journey as one as they begin to discover new sights and put into effect new plans. I have attended a variety of weddings throughout the year and if I were to pick out a common element from across the board, it will be that weddings are tending to get more personalized. “Tradition” is mixed with “modern” to present an interesting mélange of what would more likely be called “casual traditional”. This is one of the fundamentals reasons I like the real weddings feature in our magazine. Since each wedding is unique in its celebration, the best way is to showcase its individuality. Enjoy reading the year’s first issue and with the wedding season going on Mehendi is your perfect guide to help you share the best day of your life with your loved one!

The Yin-Yang Factors: The Real, The Quirky and The Fun.
T
he battle of the sexes is never ending and has no name. Men and Women, Yin and Yang, two halves of the same coin, or rather, two very different halves of the same coin. But as much as Men are supposed to be from Mars and Women are supposed to be from Venus, researchers from Brigham Young University and Stanford University have found this proverb-shattering fact... No. That men and women are both from Earth.
1. You like wearing his shirt.
Jokes apart, as much as we hate them or love them, you just can’t ignore them. So what makes this combination so perfect over any other on the planet?
5. All those crying-jags over the phone over that guy doing that to you. I mean it’s got to mean something right!
Here is a list of things I’ve managed to put together for your perusal, agreement/disagreement hereafter.
6. Sigh. Let’s admit it: Men drive better than we do!
For starters, we invariably, inexplicably, feel happy with someone from the opposite sex. (My sincere apologies to the feminists). The very opposing nature of men and women suggest that they are meant to be together.
7. As much as we take pride in making our own decisions and being independent, it feels good when your special someone takes those decisions for you.
One is made of emotions while the other finds it hard to express. One minds ability to break down logic while the others can sort through feelings...
8. Who else would actually stand around and take it when you punch/hit them? All the while pretending it hurts.
Okay okay!
9. For the playful: Piggy back rides. Yes. I am not joking.
I’ll stop with the cheese... Let’s get down to eleven fun bits owing to the New Year... Certified by women who’ve been there and seen that. So admit it. There’s no hiding from the truth. They didn’t come up with “You complete me” just for the movie you see.
12 .Mehendi
2. You dig the smell of his cologne. 3. You are fascinated by the way he shaves. 4. While some may like it clean, some like the stubble. Whichever kind you are, its still about the facial hair babe.
10. Multiple Choice Question: Would you rather sit on A. A chair. B. His lap. 11. And the best and the most painful truth: Deep down, we know we envy them for their free thinking and spirit, admire them for what they are and know at the end of the day, he is yours and you can be yourself with him no matter what.

20 ways of having By - Lathika Varanasi
a budget friendly wedding
“
Marriages, they say, are made in heaven. But the money spent for this conjugal union isn’t exactly heavenly. Here are 20 ways that can be followed while tying the knot that are friendlier to the pocket. May the wedding bells ring!!!
1. Invitation- Over the recent past, e- invites have become a rage in weddings. A feasible and a more convenient option to wedding cards, an e-invite can be innovated and personalized depending on the guest it is being sent to. It is also a faster and efficient mode of invitation, especially to invite people living abroad. 2. Photography- Everyone likes the memories of their wedding, the most precious event in their lives, to be preserved eternally on film. But an inexpensive method of doing this would be to hire a photographer without including the wedding album costs. Instead of an album, the photos can be burned on a DVD. Later on, select pictures can be handpicked and made into an album. By doing this, a few embarrassing moments that you wouldn’t want captured can be d eleted! 3. Jewellery- No bride’s lustre is complete without jewellery. If you want to make your jewellery more affordable, go in for temple jewellery, especially for South Indian weddings. They are both economical
”
and attractive. Otherwise, one’s antique jewellery can be reset to a more contemporary pattern, instead of buying new ones. This way, the bride will dazzle without having to splurge! 4. Make-up- Although widely used, oil based cosmetics are expensive and do not blend seamlessly with the skin tone of Indian women. If you are contemplating about accentuating your beauty at not so skyrocketing prices, subtle, airbrush makeup is a better option. 5. Couture- Heavy silk sarees are an integral part of the bridal wear of South Indian Weddings. If you are looking at spicing up your couture, blends such as silk-cotton instead of pure silk sarees is an interesting as well as a cheaper option. You can even opt for designs with kalamkari work and other embellishments, to get that haute look. 6. Styling- Styling is the magic wand needed to transform a bride or a groom from a mere mortal to an example of ethereal beauty and charm. It would cost much less if one were to go directly to the beauty
Mehendi . 15
parlour and get oneself styled for the D- Day instead of the stylists coming to one’s house. A cost effective measure without compromising on the looks! 7. Flowers- These have been a highly sought after decorative ornament for weddings since time immemorial. To bedazzle your wedding with the beauty and fragrance of flowers without going blue over the price, use indigenous flowers, widely available in the local markets rather than shipping or ordering exotic ones. 8. Cakes- Cakes are not just a much relished delicacy in the wedding menu, but are also historically symbolic of the purity of marriage and the commitment the newlyweds share for each other. Cakes can be baked with more icing instead of frosting, as frosting consumes a lot more sugar and is therefore more expensive. The costs of cakes can be slashed if the number of edible parts on the cake is increased, by reducing the trimmings which only form a source of decoration. 9. Desserts- Catering to those guests with a sweet tooth, desserts like cupcakes and muffins are a viable option. They cost much less compared to more fancy desserts such as soufflés and cheesecakes and they do not fail to satiate either! They can also be made in various flavours, apart from the conventional chocolate. 10. Transport- If hiring a car to turns out to be pricey, use your own or your families’ cars as a means of conveyance for dignitaries and other special guests. If not, rent SUV’S, since they accommodate a lot more people. Renting a diesel or a gas powered car would be cheaper than the ones run by petrol. 11. Reception Venue- a lush green lawn in the backdrop, with a gentle breeze blowing across your face…doesn’t this sound idyllic for your reception setting?? Alternative venues such as clubs and farmhouses make for interesting offbeat receptions, at a much lower price too. If you are a member of any club, then a thematic reception can be arranged, without you going berserk over the prices! 12. Hotels- The overall cost of a hotel wedding works out to be less expensive than ones in the regular wedding halls, as hotels tend to provide a lot of packages, which covers the food, venue and even the adornments, as the florist and other vendors for the hotels are a part of the package. 13. Food- Serving one kind of cuisine, instead of multicuisine, is a good option to breathe easy on the budget. One can focus on providing with a diverse
16 .Mehendi
choice of delectable dishes of one cuisine, so that it will still serve to be appetizing to the palate! 14. Music- Several south Indian weddings tend to have a music or a dance performance in wedding receptions. Instead of that, you can rely on the electronic systems to play some soothing /lively music in the background, depending on the kind of atmosphere you want to get married in! Either ways, it will set the tempo for your joyous occasion and at a approachable cost too! 15. Wedding Halls- If you have already set your mind on “ walking down the aisle” in a wedding hall only, then you can think about organizing your wedding ceremony and your reception on the same day, so that you only have to rent your hall for one day instead of two. 16. Wedding Planner- Hiring a wedding planner/contractor works out cheaper rather than assigning different people for different tasks, as the contractor would sub- contract the flower decorations, food and other necessary arrangements. Since it is an entire package, you would have to pay much less than when you hire individual managers. 17. Mehendi/Sangeet- A select gathering at one’s house instead of a banquet hall is a cost- effective option for one’s Mehendi or Sangeet party. One can also consider hosting the Sangeet as a cocktail/ mocktail party, with finger foods rather than a full fledged multi course sit –down dinner. 18. Return Gifts- Alternative eco-friendly gifts can be given to guests, such as jute handicrafts, glazed glass articles or pottery work. Artwork on pottery makes them all the more appealing. One can even accessorize them with beadwork/ sequins. These gifts are unconventional, affordable and ensure that the guests do not leave empty handed! 19. Events- Indian weddings tend to be extravagant in terms of the number of events hosted, such as Sangeet, Bachelor/ Bachelorette parties, an event to usher in the groom, reception and finally the wedding ceremony. One can minimize the number of events, to avoid escalating costs. 20. Registered marriage- Looking for an extremely lowkey affair? Registered marriages is the best option for this. Another advantage is that it can be conducted on a shoestring budget! One can lead up the wedding with a small party for one’s closed circle.

ART OF EXPRESSION W
edding cards are no longer seen just as cards but more as a style quotient and a status factor. This box is made of first quality velvet. The upper part of the box is made of cardboard. A blade cut design made of foam material is embossed in the centre of it, giving an impression of a stone embedded design.
The lower part of the box is also a combination of cardboard and foam. The invitation card is wrapped in a non-woven paper . The card itself is made of a metallic board and gold foil has been used for the print on the card. The entire card is together in a band made of foam and is placed inside the box. The box resembles a cassette player when it is opened to take the card. Such cards are made only on request with a delightful change everytime. No two cards will ever be alike. Such is the marvel of Marvel Cards.
O
pting for a simpler card? This one is made of Indian board material, which is a sort of a textured material. It is printed in gold and green ink. The central design consists of an ensemble of green, black and white stones embedded on the card. The background is splashed with repeptitive patterns in gold, making the the card look vibrant and visually appealing. The contents of the card is printed in gold ink. Intricate patterns and flamboyant use of colors are the highlights of this card.

GROOM SYNDROME You are your greatest asset! City based designer, Prabha Narasimhan delves into how grooming began and why it’s required in today’s time.
H
ow did grooming come about? It has been quite a bit of travel for the haute couture fraternity, from the days of the caveman. For quite a millennia, since the advent of homosapiens on earth, human beings were walking naked or at best they clad themselves with the forest produce.
Over a period of time, they started arranging themselves in groups, and were moving in search of food and civilization always grew on the banks of a river. Then modesty started developing among human beings. They wanted to make a statement about what they wear. With the development of handlooms and the industrial revolution, things began to take shape. What began as modesty, has developed into a big industry. Custom made wearing apparel soon became the norm, and later on mass production became the norm. Now discerning customers are going back to custom made wearing apparel. Thus, a reaction to nudity under the garb of modesty has become a very big industry. To look good and appealing also led to the growth of the cosmetics industry. To smell good led to the growth of the perfumery industry. Of course dare to bare, nowadays passes off as sophistication and modernity.

Grooming
HER • Walk tall- Men love confident and successful women. Get the perfect posture and never hunch. • Guard your pearls- He is your knight in shining armour, prince charming but don’t kill him with those pearly yellows. A frequent visit to the dentist should definitely be in on your yearly planner. • The look- You don’t expect your hair to stay the same way till the end of the day, do you? Style your hair during your breaks because you never know who’s looking. • Hair scare- A bad hair day? Just tie it up in a bun and no one will notice anything different. • Use sunscreen- Love the sun? Don’t get baked loving it too much. Use appropriate sunscreen before stepping out. • Spot the dots- You don’t want to scar your face by breaking those pimples. Either go to a dermatologist or if you prefer home remedies use sandal. • Shape it up- Got the perfect face, the perfect hair and the perfect smile but no point unless you have the perfect body. Exercise; keep yourself fit not just for others to have the second look but to also keep you in good health. • Make-up- Avoid heavy make-up. You don’t want to scare him on your first date. Use subtle make-up which blends with your skin and enhances your features. • Pamper yourself- Take a day off, spend your day at the parlour and walk out looking and feeling good about yourself. • Clothing- Pick up clothes which suit your personality and go with your style. • Shoes- A lot of men judge women by their footwear. During the day wear smart flats or your office shoes but during the night pick up those perfect stilettos. No harm in going that extra bit.
HIS • Two is better than one- Avoid a linear eyebrow. See that there is a gap between the eyebrows. Trim and keep it in shape. Let it not grow wildly. • Nail it- Manicure your nails. Don’t make it a dumpyard for filth as your hands are what will be offered to your prospective one. • Mane matters- Have a haircut at regular intervals and make sure it does not look disheveled. To be called The Yeti. • Machoness- If you sport a moustache see that you trim it periodically. • Faux pass- Don’t wear tightfitting clothes. Wear clothes which are comfortable and make you feel confident. • It’s all about the smell-Wear a perfume which will suit your personality. One of the basic laws of attraction relies on the smell. • The knot- Tie knot must be perfect and not sloppy. • iTalk- Don’t be glued to the phone. Nobody enjoys the company of a gizmo freak. • Hip Huggers- Don’t keep your phone clipped to your belt 24x7. Not cool anymore. • Spot the dots- Before completing your shave make sure you haven’t missed any spot. Too much of the grunge look isn’t appreciated. • Mr. Nosey- make sure you get a quality nose trimmer and especially for the tall ones nobody wants to know what’s happening there!

The intricacies of bespoke tailoring and clothing A Syed Bawkher experience Syed Bawkher! The brand stands out. Here’s why their tailoring is so fabulous that you’ll always want to go back for more.
T
he minute i was asked to interview the makers of the finest suits in Chennai, my excitement couldn’t be concealed. I was there to meet the creators of these masterpieces, Mr. Aijaz Ahmed and Mr. Unaiz Ahmed. Walking into their plush store at Crown Court in Cathedral road, I noticed that the store exuded a sense of calm and the wood panelled walls intensified the air of depth in the quiet shop. Syed Bawkher has been around for the past 90 years, since 1904, specializing in bespoke (custom-made) tailoring for men pre-dominantly and women also. Designing sherwanis adds another feather to their cap. So we began the interview with Mr. Unaiz first, the son. “Specialty lies in the fact that all our suits are handmade and we do not take in more than 20 suits per day thereby ensuring perfection to every one of them. The great detail that is paid to the cut and fit, our use of only the finest fabrics imported from countries like France, Italy and Egypt are important, the use of Gauttermann threads(100S, 180S) seen as the finest threads and work done in the best mills of the world sets them apart, to name a few” he says. “The style interprets the superior culture of clothing whereas the quality originates from the manufacturing process, which combines state-of-the art technology with exquisite handicraft” as he put it. To strive for the highest standards of comfort and customer satisfaction has been their motto. He says the term “the best suit” would be understood when a person comes up to a man and says “You look good” rather than “You’re wearing a nice suit”. They cater to the needs of the aristocracy and businessmen worldwide.
He believes that the making of a suit is best done by hand, the old-fashioned way. According to him, though wearing a suit that suits the need of the occasion is what matters most, 30s and 40s style suiting is seemingly on the rise. His father Mr. Aijaz Ahmed agrees and adds that shiny fabrics are all the rage and the classic cut 3 button-right breast pocket suits will always look exquisite on a man and never goes out of fashion. “We would design a new garment for each function. In a South-Indian wedding, we would make a pattu sattai or sherwani or a tie and vest tuxedo for the party. There is a wider demand for suits and basically a wider range to choose from compared to a few years ago” he quips. Mr. Aijaz agrees that one roll of these fine fabrics costs around Rs.2.5 lakhs but customers do not complain as they tend to bask in the comfort of the fine silk and cashmere used to line these suits. A special characteristic of Syed Bawkher suits that I found interesting was their use of natural smoked horn and carazo nut buttons. Having had first hand experience feeling some of these materials, I must say I admit that I did not know wool could be that soft. Or that suits in general could be so light and airy. Such is the quality that is ensured. The fabrics are kept in temperature-controlled warehouses and shipped to the store only during the process of making the suit. Moving on to public opinion and my own and also the fact that its 2011, here are eleven reasons why you’d want to consider Syed Bawkher & Co. for your next formal event.
Mehendi . 25
26.Mehendi
• They’ve been around for 90 years. That shows a higher level of experience than any other bespoke tailor. • Their use of only the finest fabrics and their unbreakable principle of never compromising on quality. • The simple feel of the fabric is exquisite. • A personal favourite: The carazo nut buttons. Unique. • It is bespoke tailoring done to perfection, purely by hand. • All their suits are lined with pure silk that gives a light feeling to it. • Syed Bawkher & Co. is a family business. This fact has evoked a positive reaction from people through the years in terms of values that Syed Bawkher stands for. • A suit is one for special occasions and how better to do it than have it custom made. • It has proved itself to be a brand to be reckoned with and their list of clientele has shown that the logo has been worn with style and pizzazz. • Another personal favourite that impressed me was their broad website that facilitates online booking of suits. One can give his/her measurements online and have it stitched. The care with which it has been done is impressive. • A contrasting feature of Syed Bawkher suits would be underarm shields and crotch guards, features seen only in the finest suits. I walk out with a new found respect and curiosity for bespoke tailoring, catchy as the term is. Suits are truly a fine line of clothing and to own one would mean committing oneself to a certain degree of standard, comfort, and class. To own a suit of such proportions made exclusively for you, to fit your body rather than making adjustments to an off-the-rack piece of clothing, makes the experience a delectable one indeed.

As I enter Collage, Chennai to witness the launch of the latest creations of Studio Virtues I notice the ladies of the city eagerly waiting for showstopper, supermodel Sheetal Malar. The renovated studio dedicated an entire section exclusively to bridal collection where the show began. Studio Virtues needs no introduction and their latest collection; a gift to the modern bride. Their inspiration? The 19th century Mughal Era. The Havelis, The Diwan-e-Khas and The Diwan-e-Aam inspired the collection from its vibrant colours and intricate architectural details. It is an amalgam of Islamic, Persian and Indian Heritage. From the muted embroidery to the stylish yet timeless cuts, Studio Virtues has brought back the past with a lively twist. The classic embroidery patterns combined with colours which were unimaginable brought out the inner beauty without deluging the persona. The garments are inspired from the vast Indian Heritage especially from the Mughul Era with hand embroideries like vasali, marodi and zardosi which are rare. The collection includes kalidars, sarees, dupattas, lehengas and sherwanis for men as well. Apart from the sexy black combined with golds and silvers, vivacious colours such as hot pink, royal blue, green, and scarlet red brought out the richness in each garment. The garment which caught my eye was a four piece kurta set. Nobody would imagine this would they? What beat this outfit was when Sheetal walked in with a fitted green corset and a shocking pink lehenga transforming the atmosphere to truly the old times. The fabrics used in this collection are Benarasis, Handloom Brocades and Chanderis to give more texture to the volume. For more details walk into Collage at 153, Greams Road, Chennai, or call 2829 1443.

Like, love, relationship. These three terms are most vital for the magical journey to begin. Geetha Balakrishnan, a budding fashion designer and our first Mehendi Girl shares her views on the sanctity of a marriage.
REALITY bites
Mehendi Girl L
ike every girl I dream about the perfect wedding, with all the flamboyant decorations, perfect lehangas, the festivities, the grooming and shopping that begins months ahead and of course the endless gifts. But in the heat of all that’s rosy, lays the most important factor that we so easily take for granted, the person we’re going to share our vows with. We hardly go for what we need and end up choosing something that’s all wrapped up in gold. In the days where we are open to so many choices, it gets pretty hard to decide who you actually want to spend the rest of your life with. We should realize that marriages and relationships are not about convenience but about companionship. For most of us it’s because we are afraid and not emotionally ready for such sort of a long standing commitment. We are in a hurry to grow up and over burden ourselves with the responsibility that’s attached with maintaining a positive and healthy bond with someone. Most of us would agree that at least someday we have felt that we are losing the freedom that we expect to have, in any relationship
(be it parents or friends), with our career opportunities or socially. Alone, we have more chances to make independent choices and do what our heart wants us to. We all aren’t comfortable with having to explain about the decisions we make and the reasons behind it to anyone, hence when someone questions us we get into a negative state of mind and indulge in not being straight with them. I see relationships, be it with your friends family or loved ones, as a puzzle with no clue to it. Howsoever you try to manage it, you will never be able to fully succeed and it simply remains puzzling. The more you try to demystify it, the more mysterious it becomes. So it should start with an understanding about ourselves, what we are looking for in a person and what are we ready to offer. Relationships form the most meaningful element in our lives, whatever the time or place; we are constantly forming new bonds, meeting new people every single day. Nobody is a relationship expert otherwise s/he would have a magic formula to get it right. And no, looks are not the magic formula otherwise all the supermodels would be blissfully happy. Men and women should make the choice to look at each other as human beings first and not just mere objects to enter a higher rank in the social status.
Love is a majorly glamourised thing. We all enjoy watching romance movies, epic tragedies and love stories that are seemingly larger than life. There’s nothing wrong with watching Richard Gere and Julia Roberts light up the screen or Saif and Rani sharing a romantic quarrel - provided a person continues to separate fiction from reality. Once you learn to live alone, relationships won’t be a misery as we would have learnt to enjoy our simple existence and celebrate the small joys that come from it, without expecting too much. For after all, we did not come to this earth with company. We are born alone and end alone. Its the very nature, our existence isn’t based on being friendly and social, but yes that would be a life not lived and enjoyed. It would be dull and monotonous. Loved ones give us the little perks we need. They are there to share our joys, highs and lows. But we should keep in mind not to lose our individuality and give each other the space and freedom that’s necessary without being indifferent.

Job descriptions: Jason is in finance and I teach at an elementary school. The meet: Jason and I met in college and were actually close friends for three years before ever going on a date. He lived next door to a boyfriend I once had and I saw him all the time, but thought he was too big of a dork for me to date. In a relationship for: 4 and half crazy years! The question: He took me on an amazing vacation to the Dominican Republic. One morning we woke up really early and went for a walk on the beach. We ended up sitting on a grassy hill, looking at the water, and there, with no one else around he asked me. Initial reaction: I was happy but really overwhelmed. I always knew I would marry Jason but then here were the words coming out, in action. He started talking about asking for my dad’s permission and I started crying. It was really important to me that my parents were included. It all just seemed so right and ready. The great Indian shift: In America, Jason and I had jobs that made us live apart. I lived in Colorado and he lived in Texas-and we only saw each other on the weekends. When the opportunity came for us to move to India and live in the same place-we didn’t even hesitate. We’ve always thought this was a great decision. The traditional wedding: The colour. In the U.S. traditional weddings are about black and white and maybe one more colour. In India, weddings have vibrant, exciting colours. Brides even wear red! The weddings seem so alive for many reasons: the dancing, the families, and mostly the colours. We felt like this really represented our love and relationship-vibrant, exciting and energetic. We really felt like a traditional wedding expressed our love!

FOOD FOR THOUGHT Destionation Rendezvous : Romain Roland Street, Pondicherry, India
I
n this edition’s Food Buzz, lets get a little away from Chennai, about 150 km away- Rendezvous @ Pondy! Since this place has a client list that drives down for dinner, its not not too far fetched an idea to take your better half here for a date! Menu tries to accommodate everything and portrays a Multi Cuisine scenario, and that is where it gets all the bad reviews from! If you are looking for Chicken Tikka tasting food, then, they will serve you some Chicken tikka tasting food and will well NOT be worth your money or time! But move beyond that and have their house specialties, and you will be taken by surprise! Even lasagnas and steaks are not great here, just their house specialties, namely the ones written on a black board!
They also have a whole cooked red snapper and various other fish types, lobsters, crabs, oysters and the likes! The chicken breast steak cooked with the Worcestershire sauce was just ok, and the lasagna was pathetic. But like I said, Rendezvous is not the place for these, but I must add that their French Fries were amazing!!!!

For dessert, we had ‘Death by Chocolate’ - a chocolate sponge cake oozing with chocolate, and unlike the one served in Dominoes, this one has the right flavor of chocolate and therefore does not hit you! And for the first time outside of Austria, am I seeing a chocolate cake being served with cream - to me, this is the best way to eat a rich chocolate cake! I have spoken about the service and their attitude, but I have not had a problem so far! Service is otherwise quick and attentive! They have a number of private dining rooms catering to families and large parties and a first floor seating that caters to most of us! The waiters here are known to have an attitude, especially towards Indians, maybe they are trying to be a little French, but like I mentioned before, service is quick and attentive, though you have to go there a second time to actually be smiled at!

rgentina, situated in the most southern end of South America, has a lot to offer to honeymooners.
Buenos Aires, its capital, with its elegant buildings, wide avenues and parks is said to be the most European of all South American cities. During the day you can visit the historical area of San Telmo, where you will see well preserverd colonial buildings, cobblestone streets and lots of antique shops. La Boca is a picturesque area well known for its colourful wooden houses that sheltered the first Italian immigrants that arrived in the city. In its main pedestrian street, Caminito, artists display their paintings and couples dance to the tango. At night you can have dinner in Puerto Madero .This used to be an abandoned dock area that has now been turned into the most fashionable part of the city filled with restaurants, luxury hotels and high-rises that face the river. show and even take some classes to learn the first steps of this typical dance. If you head north, you can’t miss the Iguazu Falls in the border between Argentina and Brazil. Iguazu is one of the largest waterfalls in the world and it is in fact a group of 275 falls surrounded by exuberant subtropical rainforests. In the south of the country is Patagonia, a vast area of unspoiled nature. There you can visit Bariloche or Villa La Angostura , beautiful villages surrounded by lakes and mountains. Further south is the breathtaking Perito Moreno Glacier that you can admire from the various walkways or have the unforgettable experience of taking a walk on the glacier itself . Argentina is a huge country and the variety of landscapes and climates is immense. You will surely find many options for a perfect honeymoon.

I
t was a rainy Friday evening. Bombay was quite acclimatized to this during the month of September. Everything seemed usual about the day yet there was something different about this evening. It was my daughter’s birthday. Tara, a B. Com graduate was now pursuing her further studies in portfolio management from a very reputed Chennai based management college. She was a lovely child, very obedient and affectionate; she was the kind who would go out of the way to help another. Being the only daughter she was thoroughly pampered and given all the luxuries an average middle class family could afford. Tara was throwing a party for her friends today. I was getting set with some last minute arrangements when Tara got out of her room dressed in a knee length black dress with freshly set curls with just the perfect amount of kohl on her almond shaped eyes. She looked absolutely gorgeous. With every single day I could see the changes Tara was going through right from her clothes to the way she liked to wear her long flowing tresses. Time indeed flies! Who could say this better than me on this very moment? I still remember my little Tara being forced out of bed trailing to school in neatly braided pigtails and returning back home with the messiest looking hair anyone could even imagine. In no time she was out of college and now. She was celebrating her 22ND BIRTHDAY. It was transition from a young naughty little girl to a coquette pretty lady.
Picture: Rohit Ravindran
Tara’s dad who was enjoying every bit of the moment suddenly turned towards me saying.”Hey look at our little Tara. She’s turning out to be such an attractive child (with so much happiness) she’s almost done with her course…. I think its time we start looking out for Tara’s prince charming (with a very heavy heart) into someone’s safe hands”!!!!. I was taken aback as I hadn’t thought of this till this all this while… There were tears of joy in my eyes but the feeling of parting from my daughter was killing me from within. I guess any mother would go through this feeling. I only pray and wish she gets someone who would be able to give her all the love in the world, someone who would take care of her the way we did. Tara always shared a very open relationship with me. We were like two friends, I was always aware of all her little crushes way back in school and her past relationships in the recent past…but over the past two years I knew my daughter was not seeing anyone. I was sure about this. I think it was time we spoke to her about the next phase of her life. Tara’s dad and I decided to talk this out to her over some good dinner. The next day……… (To be continued)

Dear Doctor, I have heard about wellness medicine and have been asked to get Wellness Check. How exactly is this different from a routine Master Health Check up? Hi, A wellness check is primarily meant to keep you healthy if you do not have medical problems, and if you do have problems, a wellness check is to help you avoid complications of diseases. In wellness, consultations are usually about 30 minutes and your doctor will be qualified in two or three different streams of medicine (such as Allopathy, Ayurveda, Acupuncture, Homeopathy etc).
I masturbate a lot. Will this cause a problem in my sexual life? No. But since you say ‘a lot’ , I should mention that unless you are someone who is addicted to masturbation and wants to do it at every given opportunity, it will not affect your sexual life. If you feel you are addicted, talk to your doctor for help.
Dear doctor, I am engaged to be married, but my fiance and me are having compatibility troubles. We are not sure if we should get married after all. Can you help us?
Dear sir, I am getting married in Feb 2011, but I feel I am not able to have a good sexual life. What could Hi, I am sorry that you are having troubles. But unless I know what kind of ‘compatibility troubles’ I cannot give be the problem? you any answers here. If it is purely sexual, let me asHi. Your question is not specific and so I cannot give you a single answer. A good sexual life is dependent on various factors, and a good physical and mental health is essential to enjoy a good sexual life. You should talk to a wellness physician and get your problems sorted out. I am quite confident that yours is a treatable problem.
Doctor, I am engaged and my fiance and we had a chance to have sex. That was my first time in bed with a man. However, sex was not what it was made out to be and I was quite disappointed. What could have gone wrong? Hi. Well, this question is becoming quite common now. First of all, let me assure you that almost no one gets ‘the best night of my life’ experience on their first time. Expectations tend to hit the roof, especially since yours was an experience with a man you plan to spend therest of your life with. With a certain amount of practice and good communication between the two of you (both of which does not happen on your first time), your sexual life will become an enjoyable one.
Dear sir, I am getting married to my long time girlfriend next month. I have never had sex before, but 62 .Mehendi
sure you that it can be solved in almost all instances. If you have problems with each other, I suggest you visit a relationship specialist or couple therapy center to get an idea of what to expect.
Dear sir, does diabetes affect sexual life? Hi. Yes it does. Diabetes affects a number of blood vessels in your body, the most important being the ones in your eyes, kidneys, heart and also your sexual organs. Since blood flow is affected, it can affect your performance in bed. You should get your sugars under control for various other reasons such as preventing a heart attack! However, diabetes cannot affect your love for your partner, which is a much more imporatant tool for sex!

Here are a few skin and hair care routines that a to-be-bride must follow:How does one identify their skin type in order to start a bridal skin care routine?
What should be my skin care routine a week prior to my wedding date?
There are normally 4 skin types-
Bleaching in order to cover all facial hair (if your skin is already accustomed to the procedure), a facial (if your skin is already accustomed to the procedure), waxing of arms and legs, threading of eyebrows, upper lip, lower lip and forehead (2-3 days prior to the marriage), A twice a day CTM routine, relaxation and plenty of sleep
• Normal skin - The skin is neither too oily/greasy nor dry/stretchy anywhere. • Oily skin - The skin is extremely oily/greasy over the T-zone (nose, forehead & chin) as also the cheeks and the jawline. • Dry skin - There is no trace of oil on your skin; in fact your skin feels tight and stretchy. • Combination skin - This is a mixture of type (b) and type (c) skins; wherein the T-zone is oily and the cheeks are dry feeling dehydrated and stretched. I am engaged to be married in the next 3 months. What should be my skin care routine? Ideally a skin care routine should commence 4 months prior to your marriage. Nevertheless, it is not too late. A CTM (cleansing, toning, moisturising) routine twice a day, and a deep cleansing routine (face pack application depending on your skin type), once or twice a week, are a must do.
I am 1 month away from my wedding date. Can I colour and cut my hair now? A global hair colour takes 2-3 weeks to set in. A cut takes 2-3 hair washes to settle in. These procedures are best done 2 months prior to the wedding date. However, a not so dramatic change in a hair cut is practical at this stage. If the colour procedures are meant to cover any premature greying strands, then such colouring procedures should be done 2-3 weeks before the wedding date (if this is the first time), or 1 week before the wedding date (if the same has been done earlier too)
When should I start my salon visits for my skin care? All salon visits must commence 3-4 months prior to your wedding. If any procedure is being done for the first time, it should be done the farthest from the wedding date, to look for any untoward reactions. I am getting married in 2 months from now. I have dry and frizzy hair. How should I take care of it? Ans. Dry and frizzy hair is due to lack of moisture in the shaft. It is also hereditary. Moisturise your hair twice a week by applying a combination of pure almond oil and olive oil. Use a shampoo and conditioner suitable to your hair type. Also use a deep hydrating moisturising mask once in 15 days. Do a hair spa for that added moisture.

CHAMPAGNE!
O
nce upon a time, a man drank champagne and said “I am drinking stars” (Dom Perignon). Sparkling like stars, the perfect bubbly is a symbol of celebration. The history of Champagne dates back to the Middle Ages. Churches in the Middle Ages owned vineyards and monks made wine to serve at religious services. The oldest recorded example of sparkling wine to come from the Champagne region was indeed made by a monk. Called Blanquette de Limoux, the original bubbly was made in 1531 in the Abbey of Saint Hilaire. It was first enjoyed by royalty, thus the association of Champagne with being luxurious. There is nothing quite like sipping a fine glass of the bubbly, while all decked out in a fabulous bridal gown and crystal bridal jewelry. Between the Champagne and the glamorous bridal jewelry, you are sure to feel like royalty yourself, at least for one day. Many of the world’s premier brands of Champagne were established in the 18th and 19th Centuries and are still going strong today, one of them being the Tattinger. The origin of this house can be traced to 1734, when Jacques Fourneaux established a family business which was, in time, to be Taittinger. The range of wine here includes several non-vintage cuvées, the Brut Réserve, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier, and a Brut Cuvée Prestige Rosé. Each champagne house has a typical style that is adhered to from vintage to vintage and for Taittinger the word that best describes their approach is elegance, a trait personified by every bride. Some others can be quite creamy or nutty or overwhelmingly intense, but at Taittinger, the fruit, derived from some of the best Grand Cru vineyards in Champagne’s Côte des Blanc region, is allowed to shine complementing the glow of the bride on her wedding day.
