Mehera Shaw Foundation sustainable artisan development Mehera Shaw Foundation Trust is a registered non-profit whose mission is to support sustainable artisan development projects. MSFT works in a fully integrated, transparent manner with Mehera Shaw Textiles. MSFT’s first project is an artisan upcycling project designed to produce textiles and accessories from production scrap as well as to create cooperative, microsocial enterprise, mentor-based education and training centres for artisan communities. To learn more about MSFT, please visit: meherashawfoundation.org!
! product development skill building! MSF programs train and enhance skills among rural and urban artisans, especially women, creating employment by linking up with the textile/craft sector, developing specific upcycling projects, offering product design and QC training, and ongoing skills-based mentoring.
Partnering for Sustainability an integrated philosophy Mehera Shaw believes in integrating both our Private Limited company with our non-profit development foundation. We see an integrated, vertical business model as the strongest approach to offering a high-quality, value added product to both the high-end women’s market and the rising middle-class market. The value-added component is a fundamental strength--it is the human factor--jobs creation, skills building, training for rural artisans, fair trade labour standards, supporting improved sustainability in garment production and reducing environmental waste.!
!
Upcycling Textile Project Upcycling is the process of converting waste materials or useless products into new materials or products of better quality or for better environmental value. Garment production generates a tremendous volume of waste fabric. Mehera Shaw Foundation Trust has begun a series of micro social enterprises which are both skill-building for women artisans and which upcycle production scrap fabric into fantastically textured new fabrics. Many upcycled fabrics can be made solely by hand by using traditional quilting techniques. Other upcycling projects include fashion accessories, quilt binding/trim, scarves and bags.
