Watch Us Grow
We’re seeing the first bit of green in what will soon be the Tassell-Wisner-Bottrall English Perennial Garden! We recently planted the first two—of more than 75 —trees in this garden space. Come out and watch the process! Have fun trying to count the various types of plants. The first tree, planted in June, is a big eastern redbud Cercis canadensis (left). These trees have beautiful pink blossoms in springtime, and you can see these trees layered throughout our grounds. This redbud was saved from a construction site in Lansing. The second tree planted was a Persian ironwood, Parrotia persica. This was in our original Amphitheater Plaza and was saved at the beginning of our expansion project. We’ve been taking care of it in our nursery area, anticipating this perfect location.
