When it comes to design, I strongly believe in practice makes perfect, and I work my best to perfection as an organized individual. I believe in designing with instinct and sharpening it with skills for perfection. Each step I take, I strive to be better. With the experiences gained from both studying and working industry, I have excelled the strength to adapt to the new environment quickly and the ability to communicate as part of a team. Besides that, I am keen on learning something new and capable to work under stress with a positive mindset wishing to make a positive contribution to architecture. This is what gives a little extra to my ambition.

fishopolis 2048 . Programme: Master of Architecture, RMIT University Academic Year: Year 05, Design Studio 09 Project Type: High Density Fish Farm Site Location: Hong Kong Mei Yan Chin & Jan See Oi
. Welcome to Fishopolis 2048, a condensed food productivity city built to consolidate fish production into the smallest required footprint, because we now live in a planet predicted by scientist that will run out of wild-caught seafood as a consequence of overfishing in the year 2048. The idea at a macro scale is to draw a line between the urban sprawl of Hong Kong and food production. By doing this, different categories of food products such as rice, meat, greens, and fish can be designed into the smallest possible footprint as satellite cities, to supply chains of food that feeds Hong Kong’s population constantly. As Hong Kong eats twice as much fish as the rest of the world, one Hong Konger consumes 70kg of fish a year and it relies 90% on imported fish. Fishopolis 2048 is located at Tin Shui Wai, produces 575,000 groupers daily and 210 million groupers annually to feed entire Hong Kong. In order to achieve the maximum yield, the city is planned around a radial organisation influenced by Paolo Soleri, with 4 main rings of programs, having Hatchery Tower in the center as the densest part of the city where the life cycle of the farmed fish begins, surrounded by Grow Out Towers of 300 storeys high holding 225,000 fish tanks for 9 months before transferred to the Production Buildings at the edge of the city to be delivered out to feed Hong Kong. 75,000 Residential units are nestled between grow out and production buildings to retain current Tin Shui Wai population, each of the apartments framing the consequences of overfishing. The masterplan introduces 7 vehicular entry points, railway system connecting the existing train station and conveyor belt system transporting fish. Due to the large-scale, the human can hardly be seen! This project is highlighting a problem, using this as an opportunity to show a sneak peek into the future. If we really want to eat this much of fish, Welcome to Fishopolis 2048!

B i n d i n g B a l l a r at . Programme: Master of Architecture, RMIT University Academic Year: Year 05, Major Project Project Type: Revaluate Heritage Site Location: Ballarat, Melbourne
.
Binding Ballarat is thinking about the idea of the relationship of the Facadism and the concept and value of heritage in cities, questioning the idea of why worth preserving as a veneer if the reality is that it is not always the best artifacts to represents the architecture, material experience, and quality? This project is instead proposing an engagement with the back end of Ballarat, a historically well-preserved town, thinking a better way of creating a richer dialogue, a new proposal of pulling an academic walk which stretches from the train station to Federation University, engaging the historical layers and the urban built fabric of Ballarat, creating a new narrative for the town, dealing and engaging the backend history and contributions to the new economies through a series of urban surgery cutting and upgrading the urban fabric to open up the civic presence from train station to Federation University. Binding Ballarat emphasises on the rough cut and loose end as the valuable strategy for the architecture, loose end as an architectural device, becoming the metaphor of the way of thinking about the city which is what if you open things up and leaves a loose hem open and hanging in terms of the edge of the urban fabric? Creating a narrative that is not subservient to a historical site, but is it disrespectful or in par entirely? .

criss-cross . Programme: Master of Architecture, RMIT University Academic Year: Year 04, Design Studio 08 Project Type: Mixed Use Development Site Location: Parkville, Melbourne
. The aim of this project is to connect people through the urban network to offer different experience through the journey of crisscrossing the site. As located in Parkville, a world-class education, health and research precinct, the idea is to propose a network that channels pedestrian flow throughout the site, proposing more alternative access and shortcuts in Parkville. This concept is unveiled by looking at the alleyways around the site, suggesting a criss-cross circulation network from analyzing the current alleyway condition. The concept is developed by analysing the circulation network and alleyway configurations around the site, overlapping them to reveal the most common paths weaving and intersecting each other, creating an open and criss-cross network which reflects the current site network with its threshold and courtyard condition at Melbourne University along Grattan Street from open and scattered organisation to tight and packed condition, from public area such as community hub and food outlets to private housing apartments. The density of the design is suggested by projecting the site elevations onto the extrusions from the overlapped figure-ground plan and projecting the alleyway configurations onto the elevations which informed the entrances to draw people to the site. Green pockets and balconies were designed to preserve the green quality of the current site condition, by elevating the greens onto different levels.

urban GETA W A Y . Programme: Bachelor in Architecture Academic Year: Year 03, studio 05 Project Type: Urban Market Site Location: Malacca, Malaysia
.
As our heritage & natural assets tend to be forgotten and neglected by development, public gathering spaces are sacrificed to made way for high rise towers. But the question is, is the neglection of public area worthwhile for development? This project aims to design an urban market for local and traditional arts & craft of Malaysia, encouraging local culture as well as recreating a common space for the local community. This proposal preserves the contemporary vision of urban market which adequates to the current way of life without losing its traditional, social, historical and cultural essence. At the same time redefine the concept of “market as a commercial space which reinforces the value of handwork and promotes interaction between craftsman and client. .

double skin facade .
Programme: Master of Architecture Academic Year: Year 04, level 08 Project Type: Skin Facade Design Site Location: Old Treasury Building, Melbourne CBD
.
The concept is to reflect Melbourne CBD grid system onto the facade of government office building, mapping the tourism intensity around CBD on the facade. The proposed double-skin facade is designed by reflecting the main streets in CBD onto the facade as the main structural frame while treating the smaller laneways as the sun shading lattices. It is wrapped with a skin which is designed based on the most activated tourism spots in the city and overlay with the intensity of tourist flow which informed the perforation of the skin.
Skins - Government Office -
The intention of this design is to maximise the view from interior to exterior as well as serving as a city landmark for the tourists from its facade, while the internal communal spaces framing views to the most highly activated area in the city, and serve as sun shading device to minimise the glare to the interior at the same time. The idea is to create two different experiences, which focuses on the angular perforated skin - Design Process double skin facade that inform the tourism intensity during daytime while projecting Melbourne CBD grid system onto the facade during night time as lighting up the internal spaces. .
