01 Interbay Pass In 1917, by releveling and uniting the region’s vast inland freshwater lakes and rivers, the Ballard Locks forever changed the landscape and economy of Seattle. The move spawned a network of waterfront industries that today maintains 3,000 jobs and nearly $500 million in revenue annually. But all of this business relies on the maintenance of that one keystone piece of gateway infrastructure to the saltwater trade networks beyond. If the Ballard Locks suffered damage by aging materials, earthquake, or other natural disaster significant resources would be at risk. At the same time, we have learned that the last 100 years of industrial capitalism cannot continue without some revisions. Our seas are rising, the climate is warming, and all life is suffering from industrial pollution and unsustainable resource extraction. Within our cities, historic industries struggle under the pressures of gentrification and competing workforces such as the tech economy. A pass finds the path of least resistance amidst obstacles. By cutting a canal from Salmon Bay to Smith Cove, Interbay Pass first provides a redundant and complementary alternative to the Ballard Locks. In turn, it also offers Seattle an opportunity to rebuild this ‘dead zone’ of an urban neighborhood into a catalyst that can reframe its industrial ecosystem for the next 100 years. Our design explorations illustrate the potential for the Pass to also ground new and existing dense, urban live-work neighborhoods with stronger and forward-looking ecological and community connections.

02 New Cambridge North The north of Cambridge is a very interesting place. It has good traffic to the centre of Cambridge and charming rivers to relax people. However, the land is not well utilized. The subway station is empty and lifeless, and the green space along the river is unused. The design is to make the place more vibrant.

03 Creative Current Creative Current/Corriente Creativo is the revitalization of the intersection of Wynwood and Edgewater. This revitalization is made possible by the collision of two sources of Energy: First, the zeal of a cultural corridor, using art to celebrate the diverse tapestry of identities that make Miami. Second, the power of a thoughtful, proactive and sustainable development that creates spaces to work and live, supporting the growing demand for high-quality and affordable real estate and addressing the environmental concerns.
