It never ceases to amaze me just how much our lives continues to go more towards virtual reality with all this modern computer technology. We no longer need a big, fat directory that seems to weigh a ton to look up a place or person’s phone number or address. We can just go to YellowPages.com or anywho.com without even flipping a page. If we want directions to go somewhere, no need to call and write them down, we can find it on mapquest.com and just print it with map and all. Neither do we even need to own a dictionary to look up the meaning of a word. It can be looked up in Microsoft Word instead as well as online dictionaries. It is all there at our fingertips, anything and everything we

ever want to know about or need, just a click away. Not only is any kind of information just a click away, so is online dating. We can actually pick and choose what kind of partner we are looking for from any country. We can narrow it down to brown eyes, blue eyes, tall, athletic, doctor, soccer player, German, Arab, etc., etc., you name it and something close to what we search for is bound to come up. But wait! As Muslims, Islam does not permit us to date. The only time a Muslim brother and sister can be together alone (when not married) is in an open public area. And then that is only if they are talking and thinking about marriage. Otherwise they

must be in the presence of their family or a trusted third party. Then why are there so many Muslim Matrimonial websites out there? They almost tend to outnumber the non-Muslim dating websites. Now you would think that online dating is just for nonMuslims; well, think again. Although Muslims are not to engage in dating, the vast majority of singles do. I first became interested in surfing these websites shortly before my divorce. I had a younger friend in her early 20s who was
