Why Outreach Is Tougher Than It Seems? By Bilal Mohammed “Why does Islam often seem strange?” asks Islamicty.com. “Islam may seem exotic or even extreme in the modern world. Perhaps this is because the religion does not dominate everyday life in the West today…” replies Islamicity. The response, however, remains short of pinpointing the inadequacy of bridging the gap between the Muslim and the non-Muslim community. The responsibility to fill this gap lies in the hands of the larger community, while the leaders continue to serve in driver’s seat. “For the most part, the Muslim community seems insulated within its own,” says Sarah Ronan, who interned at the Yusuf Ziya Kavakci Institute and served as a director at MAS Freedom in Dallas. She has been involved in local religious activities that gave her a chance to observe the pitfalls in communicating to fellow non-Muslims.
