Citing & Referencing APA STYLE
During this session, students will learn the reasons why citing and referencing are necessary; and, how to employ the APA system to accurately cite and reference. Instruction and practice in using the MP Library-created online referencing tool, ERNI, will also be included.

Evaluating Information
How to gather credible evidence on which to base an assignment
The aim of the Evaluating Information class is for participants to become acquainted with methods for determining the credibility and usefulness of the information they find. At the end of the session, students should be able to employ established criteria for evaluating the quality of items retrieved from FindIT@MP, and from Google search results lists; and articulate a number of factors that can be used to evaluate Wikipedia articles.

Research Fundamentals
Aimed at students and staff who are not yet experienced in locating information in sources other than popular, web-based search engines, this session is about employing a range of different search tools and techniques, to ensure that the best possible information is retrieved. Participants will learn how to analyse the research question before conducting a search (a factor often overlooked, and the cause of many information retrieval problems). The session also covers how to construct a complex search using multiple concepts and search terms; and other strategies for retrieving relevant information from various databases, including FindIT@MP and Google Scholar.

Turnitin Instructor Training Turnitin is text-matching, anti-plagiarism software. At Melbourne Polytechnic, it is available (under licence) to Higher Education lecturers and students; VET teachers and students. In this session, lecturers/teachers are introduced to the Turnitin website; instructed in the most-commonly used Turnitin functions; given hands-on practice at using the Instructor-mode of Turnitin, interpreting Turnitin Originality Reports; and acquainted with online avenues for seeking Turnitin help. Sessions are conducted individually, at the lecturer’s desktop.
