MELBOURNE SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA A message from Arts Centre Melbourne Arts Centre Melbourne and the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra are two important contributors to our city’s diverse cultural landscape. The annual Sidney Myer Free Concerts continue to be one of the great community events of summer and this year is no exception. These remarkable experiences combine great artists, fine music and a wonderful family atmosphere in Australia’s only purpose built outdoor concert venue, the nationally listed Sidney Myer Music Bowl. I encourage you to bring your friends and family and make a night of it, spread out a picnic blanket and soak up the fun at this great night’s entertainment. Enjoy. Claire Spencer Chief Executive Arts Centre Melbourne
A message from the Minister for Creative Industries Welcome to one of Melbourne’s iconic cultural events – Melbourne Symphony Orchestra’s Sidney Myer Free Concerts. A popular summer tradition that dates back to the 1920s, the concerts have supported hundreds of thousands of people to discover and revel in the beauty of classical music. Each year our highly acclaimed MSO brings to life the work of some of the world’s greatest composers and provides an entrée into what it has in store for its upcoming season. I hope the concerts inspire you to discover more great cultural experiences here in our creative state in the year ahead. Martin Foley MP Minister for Creative Industries
A message from the University of Melbourne The University of Melbourne is committed to supporting the central role Melbourne Symphony Orchestra plays in the cultural fabric of Melbourne. We’re privileged to partner with them for their free concert series in the Sidney Myer Music Bowl. We are proud to see so many of our alumni contributing, both as performers and conductors. We look forward to deepening our close relationship as the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music moves in next door to Melbourne Recital Centre in the Southbank Arts Precinct in 2018. We hope you enjoy one of Melbourne’s brilliant musical traditions. Professor Glyn Davis Vice-Chancellor University of Melbourne
