This season, stimulated by her inner-city surroundings, designer Melissa Del Bono has created a hybrid of urban cool and revamped classics. The Building Blocks collection comprises sleek textures and unique designs, delivering an array of contemporary accessories that will carry you season to season. Skilfully dyed into a ‘true blue’ tone and featuring beautifully frayed edges, our washed denim totes redefine the wardrobe staple. Our new Rosalia handbags rediscover the traditional Sicilian basket, carried on the island of Lipari, where Melissa grew up. While their soft, embossed leathers reflect meli melo’s Italian background, their clean lines echo the bustling streets of London.

Set to be the most covetable colour of the season, our understated Blue Heron hue complements the collection’s neutral tones. In contrast, Lipstick Pink is exquisitely vibrant with an evident city energy. Melissa has also introduced a subtly distressed Honey Tan leather, which taps into this season’s western vibes and offers an alternative to the full bodied tan featured in her signature range. The wearable hue adorns our classic styles as well as the playful Bum Bag, meli melo’s latest addition. Whereas its name, Building Blocks, denotes London’s contemporary architecture, the collection itself defines modern luxury with its noteworthy and innovative designs, reminiscent of the capital’s evolving skyline.

aised on the volcanic isle of Lipari, Sicily, Melissa takes meli melo’s influence from her rich Italian and patriotic English origins, as well as her everyday muses. An island girl at heart, it was the wicker basket Melissa carried growing up that inspired the original meli melo tote. Born into a fiercely entrepreneurial family, Melissa always knew that she wanted to start something creative of her own. In 2005, having never attended design school, she interpreted the wicker basket’s relaxed shape and inverted handles, and launched meli melo from her London home. Portraying Melissa herself, the ‘meli’ in the brand’s title was the playful nickname given to her by friends and family, whereas the ‘melo’ represents the blend in her culture. It is the mixture in Melissa’s upbringing that gives meli melo its rare DNA of indulgent Italian design and raw London cool. At the age of 26, Melissa solely funded the label, using money saved from a plane ticket she had previously purchased to move to Argentina. Sourcing the finest Italian leather and collaborating with local Italian factories, Melissa found it both fascinating and comforting to illustrate her humble beginnings through beautiful handbags. During a time of ‘it’ bags and logo-loving, Melissa saw a gap in the luxury accessories market for tenderly made handbags without harsh branding and extortionate price tags. Her vision was to create elegant, effortless pieces that women could carry every day. With each style flaunting buttery soft leather and polished outlines, meli melo swiftly became a go-to label for industry insiders and A-list celebrities. Almost overnight, Melissa’s brand transformed from being her hobby into her full-time business. Today, meli melo presents a selection of luxuriously chic handbags, perfect for both island and city lovers.
