Offering hope, healing, and support along the adoption and foster care journey
Vision Getting a child into your home can be such a joyous occasion, especially when she is coming from a potentially harmful environment. However, many parents discover that the battle is just beginning. Adoption or fostering can be incredibly isolating, providing necessary health care can be all-consuming, and meeting emotional needs can be overwhelming. Perhaps the most difficult aspect of the journey is the parent’s own needs. There seems to be a yawning gap in care that families receive after adopting or fostering, and these families often end up floundering. The Memphis Family Connection Center wants to fill that gap. We provide care for the whole family that is holistic, affordable, and that takes into account the trauma that these children have so often endured.
Approach Every part of the Memphis Family Connection Center operates out of a trauma-informed paradigm called Trust-Based Relational Intervention (TBRI). From the moment you enter the door, we want to surround you and your child with people that provide felt safety. We give your child a voice and reflect your child’s preciousness. Starting with our staff, we want to establish a community of people who understand trauma, and who come alongside you in the journey of parenting a child from trauma.

Counseling We believe that true healing happens best in the context of relationships. Therefore, we not only provide individual counseling for struggling children, but family sessions as well.
Health Care Although most adoptive and foster families have access to high quality medical care through TennCare or other insurance plans (and if you do not have a family medical doctor we would be happy to refer you to one), we believe there is another part of health care, especially for children from trauma. We provide health care from a chiropractic perspective.
Occupational Therapy Due to a history of trauma for many adopted and foster children, developmental delays and sensory disorders are much more prevalent. It is so important to help them develop, and to stimulate their senses appropriately, but to do so in a trauma-informed way.
