Introduction
Objectives
The aim of the Leighlinbridge Wayfinding Strategy is to create a signage system with a clear visual identity for the village. The visual identity will reflect the concept of taking a break from technology by exploring, collecting and creating with others while visiting the location.
Strategy objectives:
Wayfinding is important as it is used by all, in one way or another. It helps an individual orientate themselves within a space and from place to place. It is used as a process of navigation due to the use of maps, directional and location information. Each signage has their own role in informing the individual. The Wayfinding Signage Style Guide will provide a coherent design relevant to the visual identity. The signage will provide pedestrians with information stands (with/without maps), directional signage, interactive signage and identity structures. It will help visitors to find their way and explore.
» Develop a visual identity using clear and legible contemporary graphic design principles. » Develop a visual grammar for a culturally and linguistically diverse audience. » Limit the number of signs through better location and integration. » Create contextual and sympathetic design outcomes. » This style guide document provides the necessary design and technical information for the City of Greater Shepparton to implement wayfinding signage across the municipality. Project outcomes: » Movement will be an easy, memorable and safe experience » Increased permeability through the street network » Pedestrian-friendly streets that are safe, comfortable and pleasant » Increased walking and improved community well-being » A better connected community » Increased retail profitability due to more foot traffic and longer stays

The Millennium Garden The Millennium Garden consists of seven small individual gardens, each with its own theme, represented by trees, shrubs and stones to symbolise aspects of our life from birth to death.
Black Castle Sir Peter Carew of Devon owned it in 1567 . This castle was built to protect a strategic crossing point over the Barrow.
The garden salutes three of Leighlin’s most famous sons, Cardinal Patrick Moran, Myles Walter Keogh and John Tydall.
Not only is it the oldest bridge crossing the Barrow but it is reputed to be the oldest functioning bridge in Ireland.
The Vivaldi Garden
The River Barrow
The Garden of Remembrance
The garden is based on possibly the best known of Vivaldi concerti programmatic works collectively entitled ‘The Four Seasons’.
It is the second longest river after the River Shannon. The full length of the Barrow Way, from Lowtown to St. Mullins is 113 kilometres.
The garden was named ‘The Garden of Remembrance’ when a tree was planted to commemorate the visit to his ancestral home of the then Canadian Prime Minister, Brian Martin Mulroney, in 1991.

Signage Placement Rationale
Key Signs Sign location should be added to the main key areas, or on the way to a site, around the village. The placement of these signs will be decided on two main factors: Where the most activity takes place (Ideal for structures and information), and where the least activity takes place which would be on the way to a location or when entering/ leaving the town (directional). Directional signage is important for the navigation of visitors, and to make them aware of different sites in the village.

Colour Palette An extended colour palette has been developed to allow for customisation across different towns. The colours range from brighter tones of yellows, pinks, greens and blues; through to earthier hues of burnt oranges, tans and olive greens. These colours are available across all three municipalities, to enable maximum choice for towns.
These examples show the colours working with typography.

Time vs. Distance
Jakis Bridge
LEIGH LIN BRIDGE
Walking time information has been used rather than distances. This is designed to make walking to destinations more achievable, as distances are often misunderstood. This approach ties in with sustainable transport principles. Walking times are based on the following equation: Explore Collect
80 meters distance = 1 minute walking

A walking icon is included next to the walking time to give context.
