Methodology For our methodology we created weekly seeds of the most relevant and interesting articles or companies, then presented each one to each other at the beginning of the week. We also kept a visual scrapbook and a scrapbook for other interesting articles surrounding our topics. As well as creating moodboards and cartograms to map our ideas.
Our general research included reading books, magazines, online trend platforms and absorbing as much information as we could. As well as visiting exhibitions, conducting ethnographic research and questioning experts.

Prosthetics The advancement in prosthetics allow us to create better and more human like mechanical limbs, the idea is that in the future we will be able to swap old limbs for new and better versions.
Figure 9, Army Prosthetic Limb Figure 10, Regenerative Limb
Scientists are now creating lab grown organs and muscles through manipulating cells, giving the option to replenish body parts rather than repair them. The idea of the super human is not far away, growing new organs and creating new tissues for the body.
Technoid Humans Our reliance on technology means that we are never without it, many people are wanting to embed it within themselves. Technology is becoming more personalised to our individual needs.
Figure 12, Machine Arm
Figure 13, Arm Clock Life Countdown
Cyborg Health Futurist Ray Kurzuril estimated in a recent interview with computer world that by 2040,humans could be close to immortal. The quickening advancement of nano technology means that the collaboration of man and machine is near. The potential of nanobots is that they could wipe our cancer cells and prevent dementia as well as enhancing our cognitive powers. Figure 11,Nanotechnology in Medicine
Robotic Company Robots are becoming more human like. We will not only see a rise of robots within hospitality but in the form of relationships also. The idea of the first robot human marriage is becoming more likely, films like Her and Blade Runner encapsulate this idea.
Figure 15, Humanised PR2 Robot
Impacts Darwin described evolution as adapting with the shifts within our surrounding environments. We are always looking to better ourselves as we continue to evolve. Technology is integral to this as we become homo techians

Figure 17, Forever Connected Online Figure 18, Hybrid Play Ground
Mediating an online presence now determines what other people think of us. A government report “The Future of Identity highlighted the change technology has had on our communication skills.
Home 2.0 New technology means that devices in the home can interact and respond to each other through network of smart devices and programming. Inexpensive devices like the $25 Raspberry Pi are enabling people to program their own homes.
Figure 22, Home Security Devices
Figure 23, Microsoft Robotic Guards
Man Vs. Machine We are fascinated by the thought of making something identical to us, and artificially intelligent machines are set to overtake around half of human jobs in the next 25 years according to a recent Oxford Report.
Figure 21,DIY Sprinkler Raspberry Pi Device
Microsoft has already installed robots as a primary line of defence at their Sillicon Valley offices.
Immersive Reality New Wave immersive realities is not just about the headset. It has turned VR from “marginal to mainstream (WGSN, 2014) with examples like Google Cardboard and Samsung Gear VR.
Figure 24, 25 Bleen Holographic Devices
Figure 26, Marriott 4d Experience
Impacts The immersion of new virtual realities are creating opportunities within industries like education, healthcare, architecture and engineering Face to face communication over the internet is changing, the way we use technology is merging with our everyday lives.
HUMAN : DATA Figure 27, Own Image
Score System More and more people want to track their everyday activities
The Quantified sef movement highights imperfections within our behaviour. Even monitoring our activities within the home.
Statistical Society People have become more aware of the accessibility of their online presence Figure 28, Sheffield Hallam Big Data Exhibit, Own Image Figure 29, Survellience Home Figure 30, Tooth Implant
The avaliabiliy of data is constantly growing and we are tracking every aspect of our lives
Sensory Materials Electronic Technology is being embedded into clothing and accessories.
It has the ability to enhance already existing skills and abilities but also point out flaws and areas to improve on.
Skin Deep Eventually technology wll allow us to integrate our own personal data into our bodies, developments like Project Underskin seamlessly embed technology into our skin like a tattoo.
Figure 30, Skin Tattoo Figure 31, Own Cartogram
I don’t think that there is a way to protect our data anymore Ann-Kristen Abel, a member of POSTextiles.
Stop the Surface There is a blurred distinction between where the skin stops and starts. We are beginning to engineer a new type of luxury material, mixing textile crafts with human tissue.
Impacts Human interactions with technology bring up the question of whether we will ever be happy with ourselves.Constant evolution shows there is always room for improvement.
Figure 32, Skin Mask Figure 33, Tissue Costume
Our data is set to become more integrated into our bodies as we keep our information under the skin.

Reflection Taking key insights and reflection on the last presentation mainly around the human body. It was suggested that our current research lent itself to legal implications, particularly with regards to human health that technology could have in the future.
Believing Generation Z and Millennials were most suseptible to change through technology as our previous research had led us, we took the idea of health and set out to find a tribe which would be most suited. Our primary research led us to male vanity drawing insights individually from our research we discovered we had found an overaching theme that explored the idea of blurring the boundaries, in this case gender. But the real trend we were seeing was how individuals respond differently to technology and how this has changed us as humans. The change in human cognition is more evident in the whole of our lives not just how blurring gender has impacted on the beauty industry. With this said, it seemed that our research into technology lent itself more to travel sector and the cultural shifts of the modern business traveller.

“ It seems that the assimilation of technology into everyday life has become unremarkable... as technologies themselves become more ubiquitous -Mary Anne Moser
A strong sense of merging work and play, technology is integral to a Millennial. The social aspect of travelling is extremely important and developing technology which will aid them is a high priority.
The Millennials

Figure 41, Meditation Night Club
Cyber Mind, Body & Soul Our minds and bodies are immersed into technology everyday with ‘a continuum of developments that, on various levels, raise questions more remarkable than the initial allure of technology itself’ (Moser, 1996).
Meaningful experiences are encouraged through the positive effects of technology.
Immersed into a futuristic design, whilst being involved in an experience customised to their selfconscience

The aspect of digital environments, media and and virtual interactions such as social media are woven into our everyday lives. Assistive technologies from glasses to hearing aids have extended our vision, hearing, and all our senses, augmenting our perception of the world.
Prodigy Design Lab is a concept for a new business travellers hotel with the hope of being launched later this year. The space, which will be built by a collaboration of architects and designers, offers an online digital platform where guests can connect and work with one another
There is a seamless blurring of the human mind, body & soul with technology. Virgin Atlantic are pioneering a trail whereby they are using a VR headset by Samsung as a training tool for pilot show the merging of the virtual and real world.
Figure 48, Prodigy Design Lab Figure 49, Virgin and Google Glass
With regards to the mind and body of a modern business traveller, they need somewhere they can call home- a place to rest, work and network in the city.
Technology is giving us the possibilities to create meaningful experiences, which encourage positive emotional responses With regards to travel these new meaningful experiences for the mind and body will impact on the modern business traveller, as they need somewhere they can call home- a place to rest, work and network. They are merging business and leisure is creating new and exciting opportunities for growth.

Employment, Enjoyment & Fantasies The boundary between work and play has become more blurred, and as time passes they amalgamate into one sensation.
Figure 52, Skype Figure 53, Google NYC
With the social aspect in mind, bigger companies rely on their employees to travel and interact with clients.
Google, have invested more in employee support and employee satisfaction has risen as a result. For Google, it rose by 37 per cent. Placing high value on social interactions in the workplace. Skype is now using real time vieo, wit automated translation to break down language barriers, making many business calls more accessible. Google unveiled the first self-driving car, last year with all the typical parts including computers and sensors, creating a fully functional vehicle.
The 2015 Las Vegas CES conference saw a vast number of new designs emerge, including a Mercedes prediction into 2030. Figure 54,Mercedes Future Car Figure 55, Google Self Drive
Dor design are adapting tech and using data with a futuristic mind. Thread is a modern example of creative algorithms; using data both personal and external (weather etc.), the app creates stylish outfits for you, so you don’t have to.

Virgin has created a hotel app named ‘Lucy’ which allows guests to completely control their stay. Acting as the host, the app ‘Lucy’ alerts staff to requests from the customers such as room service orders and also gives visitors full manipulation of the room’s amenities, such as lighting and heating. The design of the ET3 train means that people have the ability to travel the world within six hours. Through the use of evacuated tunnels, it can travel at 6500km/h - which is five times the speed of sound. Making easy work for time short travellers OWL device. Used in hotels, the devices means that customers can take control of many aspects of their stay. It acts as a go between guests and staff alerting staff when the customer wants something.
Figure 58, Lucy Virgin App Figure 59, ETS Train
Possible futures within this sector are going to continue in the development of self-driving cars, genderless tech and new ways of travel. The shift in hospitality is more towards seamless technology with social aspects becoming more interlinking. Technology design is becoming sophisticated and blurring many lines, especially within gender. Technology is no longer a male dominated environment and the blurring in design will continue.

Oculus rift devices have been purchased by Thomas Cook
(Millman, 2014) and Google Cardboard devices being purchased by Virgin Holidays (Mortimer, 2104) the aim for both is to be able to try and test a holiday in store so you can try before you buy. The future will not be completely virtual however the use of VR will “will become a new form of showrooming, an incredible 3D taste of a destination that will make travelers long to experience the real thing. (Daniel Burrus, 2014)
In the future technology will continue to change the way we not only book a holiday but experience it as well. Adding a virtual landscape to our holidays will enable us to become fully immersed in the full process from marketing to potential consumers, booking a holiday and then physically experiencing it whilst there.
Figure 68 Virgin VR
Brands like Microsoft Hololens and Oculus Rift are making Virtual Reality more seamless with the continual usage within big travel companies will grow. As it becomes more integrated into smaller companies, as virtual technology grows and becomes more accessible.
