About the oath

Panarchic Codex®

Principles a new paradigm The product of an extensive and systemic transdisciplinary interrogation of the interplay between abiotic, biotic, and human systems over deep time and space, Panarchistic Architecture presents a radical new perspective on the problem of living with wildfire.

The paradigm posits the potential for developing resilience to wildfires of differing frequencies, intensities, behaviours, and severities through the creation of complex adaptive architectural, material, and information systems which mimic the biochemistries, behaviours, and relationships of fireadapted flora and fauna species, and the ecosystems they form.

The name Panarchic Codex® relates, in the first instance, to the speculative building codes that were authored to convey how Panarchistic Architecture could work in policy and wider practice. Upon the publication of the codes in the thesis (2018) of which they are part, the name was adopted for use across all legacy research, development, and publishing works.

A tool for use during workshops and other learning actvities, the Panarchic Codex® Oath is designed to succinctly express the commitments those seeking to research and practice Panarchistic Architecture need make. Further resources including interviews, publications, lectures, and more can be found at the Panarchic Codex® website.
