Dr. Kevin Knapp of Knapp Orthodontics oers these three things to look for when choosing an orthodontist:
MAKE SURE THE DOCTOR IS A MEMBER OF THE AMERICAN ASSOCIATION OF ORTHODONTICS (AAO) Members of the AAO are dentists who have completed a 3-year residency program specializing in orthodontics. They are certified once they pass a licensing exam for each state. (Not all people who perform orthodontics work are certified in this way.)
PICK SOMEONE WHO WORKS WELL WITH YOUR FAMILY Choose an orthodontist who is pleasant, professional and informative. A good orthodontist will clearly communicate expectations to parents and make your child feel comfortable.
CHOOSE A CLEAN, MODERN AND UP-TO-DATE OFFICE Technology changes pretty quickly. However, you don’t necessarily want an orthodontist who is on the cutting edge of technology or an early adapter. Choose one that carefully researches new technology before implementing it in the oce.
