‘’IdentityLESS’ project is carried out under the “Free Furniture Design” course in Marmara University Faculty of Fine Arts Interior Design Department in Istanbul, Turkey.

PROJECT THEME ‘kimlikSIZ identityLESS’ Utilizing the project theme as a reference; Questions “the nature of design and human” by challenging accepted design definitions.

Questions designer-user-producer relations through analysis of moNObloc plastic chair as the representative of the standard object for the mass production market. Conveys experimental qualities.

Utilizes design as a form of “activism”. Aims to alter the role of consumers as “passive users”.

Conveys collaborative quality with its many contributors.

Adopts new usage to existing design. deadly design

THEME DEFINITION What we mainly try to address is that…plastic chair has already found its way in our daily life…we don’t necessarily question its existence nor do we feel the need to push further to change its role. We made the plastic chair part of our lives as we did it with our many other rituals, objects and furniture. Plastic chair as we come across wherever we go…what made it so popular? Is it because it only costs 10TL? How did it replace itself with the charming wooden café chair? Is it the stack-ability or lightness that made it “must be object” of the environments?

The plastic chair that is produced every 75 seconds fills the residents, offices, backyards and cities. As we think about the highly emotional concept of Andrea Branzi’s ‘animali domestici’, we also question with the help of identityLESS project as to when and how we end up surrendering ourselves to monobloc chair. Could there be a way of giving it an identity? Should there be? …. … Occasionally, it could be paradoxes, praise, desires, dadaist or surrealist expressions, deformation, ironic messages or just a kitsch.
