Reading is a habit that allows us to think critically to argue the topic in the book. I always have a tremendous and satisfying feeling whenever I finish reading a book, article, or journal However, thinking requires a lot of energy, so we need to put strategy to take all the knowledge, which sources are worth reading or not.
Remember, you don’t have to finish every book you read; you just have to get all the knowledge you want or need. Don’t force yourself into something that makes you hate it. Obviously, you never know whether you need the knowledge inside the book or article. However, you can examine your next reading list before getting trapped in a guilty loop.
Here are what I always do every time:
Check the outline or table of contents.
The table of content hides the treasure of the books You can scan the contents list and pick the list that you really want to read. For the part you feel less interested in, you can do skimming or just fast reading.
Check the Introduction part.
The introduction part tells us why the writer wants to write the book. It’s the abstract of the book, like in the article. From this side, you can grab the mini hypothesis of the book, also you also assume your own hypothesis, and argue the writer’s opinions.
If you read a hard book, you can read the back part of the book. If you read an online book, you can read the free sample.
I must admit that hard or printed books are way better than online books. However, online book is more convenient and easy to access every day Till this time my favorite app to read books is Google Play Book and Libby
So, how can reading make sense of your everyday life?
Reading can open up diverse opinions, broad situations, and provoke thoughts. You may not know the writer, and so do the writer, but probably you share the same experience with certain things. You can learn from their path to tackle your problem, and you don’t need to be slapped by the same tragedy
The book can also be your mentor. For example. psychology books can help you to guide your mental health, way of thinking, and improve your knowledge about psychology. Who knows you can find your path during your reading time.
Reading is a powerful tool for personal growth and development. It can open up new perspectives, challenge our beliefs, and help us gain knowledge and understanding By approaching reading strategically and focusing on the content that is most relevant and interesting to us, we can make the most of our reading time and learn valuable lessons to apply to our everyday lives.
So, let's make reading a regular habit and see the positive impact it can have on our lives.
