Gregorian Masses
Gregorian Masses Gregorian Masses are a series of thirty Holy Masses celebrated on thirty consecutive days for the repose of the soul of a deceased person. Gregorian Masses derive their name from Pope Saint Gregory the Great, who was the first to popularize the practice. It is related in the Dialogues of Saint Gregory that the soul of a departed monk appeared and declared that he had been delivered from Purgatory upon the completion of thirty Masses. The Sacred Congregation of Indulgences has declared the tradition to be “a pious and reasonable belief of the faithful.

Father, all-powerful and ever-living God, we do well always and everywhere to give you thanks through Jesus Christ our Lord. In Him, who rose from the dead, our hope of resurrection dawned. The sadness of death gives way to the bright promise of immortality. Lord, for your faithful people life is changed, not ended. When the body of our earthly dwelling place lies in death, we gain an everlasting dwelling place in heaven.
