TIPS

FROM YOUR FITNESS & WELLNESS TEAM

JENNA SCOTT

Personal Coach

Take an active rest day in between your strength training days! I recommend walking on a trail to unwind your muscles and mind!

VANESSA O’BREY

Group Exercise Instructor & Certified Health, Life, and Wellness Coach

Chewing your food properly plays an important role in digestion and nutrient absorption. Some people experience digestive issues when they don’t chew their food well before swallowing. Often the faster you eat, the more food you will eat, so another benefit of a slower pace can reduce your overall intake. Chewing your food to applesauce consistency triggers the digestive process, eases the burden on your stomach to better metabolize your food, and helps your brain know when to stop eating. During your next meal, focus on chewing your food thoroughly. This can improve your digestion, help you eat less, and enhance your eating experience.

REBECCA PRINTEN

Therapeutic Yoga Instructor

Your body is designed to move, so when we sit for long periods of time, we’re not honoring what the body is meant to do. Over time, this can lead to poor posture resulting in upper body pain and tension, vascular problems, low back pain, headaches, spinal compression, and more. • If you work at a desk, try getting up every 30 minutes to walk and stretch • If you enjoy watching TV, make it a point to get up during each commercial break • Walk or ride a bike, when you can, rather than driving • Drink plenty of water so you will need to get up to use the restroom

JESSICA TAYLORSON

Personal Coach & Group Exercise Instructor

Stay fit during your vacation! Plan movement opportunities for each day (at least 20 minutes each). Some examples are beach walks, morning yoga, bodyweight circuit, local fitness classes/ gym, biking, or virtual fitness classes.

MARISSA LOFORTE

Personal Coach, Group Exercise Instructor, & Thai Yoga Massage Practitioner

Try the “Legs Up the Wall” pose. You deserve to take five minutes in this restorative pose to relax. This will increase circulation to your heart, gently stretch your hamstrings, relieve low back pain, and quiet the mind. Legs Up the Wall is one of many gentle stretches I will guide you through during a Thai Yoga Massage session.

Personal Coach

Next time you are on the Driving Range, keep the clubs in the bag and start with a more functional warm-up routine. Lift your leg until you form a 90-degree angle, then start to slowly rotate your leg outwards, repeat 10 times, then switch legs. Next, start with your knee up and out, then rotate inwards towards the center of your body. This will open your hips, leading to less low back pain as your round progresses!

VIOLETTE RICE-ASSENZA

Make-Up Artist

Summer and early fall can be hard on the durability of makeup. If you are like most cosmetic enthusiasts and struggle with deciding what to wear or whether to even bother applying makeup in the heat and humidity, I have a recommendation for you. Throughout my 30 years as a Makeup Artist, one of the caveats I have heard repeatedly is the lack of durability and blendability of makeup during the "sweaty season." Gel-based products tend to meld seamlessly into the skin, and once they adhere, can last all day into the evening. My cruelty-free makeup line Glamstrosity has on-the-go, all-in-one makeup that lasts from coffee to cocktails, and even if you're on the golf course, on the tennis court, or in the pool.

Your Success is Our Success

I started training with Mike Horn last fall and continued all throughout the winter and spring. My goal was to get stronger and more flexible to improve my golf game. Mike was great to work with. He identified my weaknesses by watching my golf swing. He wanted to know what I was working on and then developed a plan. Mike did his homework and brought new ideas each week, which kept the training fresh and relevant. With his help, I have added seven miles per hour to my driver! If you are interested in improving your game, I would highly recommend Mike!
