SLEEP

& Your Overall Health and Well-being

There are many things you can do to set themselves up for regular restful slumber.

Here are a few tips for getting better sleep.

Create a restful environment Relax & clear your mind before bed

by Vanessa O’Brey, Transformational Health, Wellness, & Life Coach Sleep is a great place to start understanding one’s health. It is also a good measurement tool for our overall health and well-being. In general, it’s important that sleep hygiene is prioritized. Sleep is medicine, just like food is medicine, and may even be more important than diet. Sleep regulates your brain function, helps stabilize your mood, and is a time when the body heals. It is critical for a healthy body because every cell and hormone is supported by proper rest. While you sleep, your body is hard at work. It restores hormonal balance, repairs itself, and keeps the circulatory and immune systems functioning properly. Your brain forms and stores memories. Quality sleep allows you to be energetic and alert. It allows you to lose weight, exercise, work, learn, socialize, and do all the things you enjoy. ◆

Avoid caffeine, alcohol, & nicotine before bedtime Take a relaxing shower or bath before bed

Stick to a consistent sleep schedule Avoid screens before bed

Include physical activity in your daily routine
