MINIMAL CUBE ... SERGIO DEL VILLAR ...
The purpose of this excersise was to create a series of cubes using linear, planar, and volumetric elements to represent a cube with a minimal use of concept or resources. I used a zigzag pattern with the basswood sticks too represent planes as
well, nested many cubes to imply a bigger one with blue foam, and assembled many foamcore planes without using glue, therefore making it more minimal. Dimensions: 3inx3inx3in Material: 1/8 foamcore, basswood sticks, blue foam.
MINIMAL CUBE ... SERGIO DEL VILLAR ... Part 2
The purpose of this excersise was to choose one of the three previous materials we had worked with, and further develop the comcpet into an evolved 6 cube. I chose to develop the foamcore vube by trying different ways to assemble
it, and implying a volumetric, planar and linear aproach; again, using no glue. Dimensions: 6inx6inx6in Material: 1/8 foamcore
FORMAL CUBES
... SERGIO DEL VILLAR ... LINEAR
For this excersice it was inteded to create a cube design using the formal operation of our choice, and producing iterations with linear, planar, and volumetric materials. I chose the formal operation split, and tried to represent it abstracting pieces of
wood. Dimensions: 3inx3inx3in Material: 1/16 Basswood sticks
FORMAL CUBES
... SERGIO DEL VILLAR ... PLANAR
For this excersice I created four cubes following a definition of split that entailed cuts or openings along the grain of an object. Dimensions: 3inx3inx3in, 6”x6”x6” Material: Strathmore paper
FORMAL CUBES
... SERGIO DEL VILLAR ... VOLUMETRIC
Dimensions: 3”x3”x3” Material: blue foam
FORMAL CUBES
... SERGIO DEL VILLAR ... PART 2
After experimenting with the different materials, I determined that blue foam and paper had the most potential to represent the split operation, and the grain that I tried to show. Dimensions: 3”x3”x3·, 6”x6”x6” Material: blue foam,
Strathmore paper
FORMAL CUBES
... SERGIO DEL VILLAR ... FINAL
For the final part of this excercise I produced a 9” model, correcting issues that the previous models had like random cuts, or extrusion of faces. I beveled the edges of thin pieces of foamcore, thus creating seamless joints, and covered the in-
side of the cube with paper to represent the inner grain of the object. Dimensions: 9”x9”x9” Materials: Blue foam, Strathmore paper

SCALE, CONTEXT, MOVEMENT ... SERGIO DEL VILLAR ...
For tbis excersice I was asigned to do a study of the Newhouse III complex at Syracuse University, and create a series of diagrams of the main atrium and facade using only body measurements for scale.
CONCEPT TO SPACE ... SERGIO DEL VILLAR ...
Taking the operation from my 9” cube, and elements used in that one, I created a “building“ with private and public spaces that were able to interact with the environment. Dimensions: 9”x9”x9” Materials: 2 ply Chipboard, Strath-
more paper.

CASE STUDY HOUSE ... SERGIO DEL VILLAR ...
For this project I did a case study analysis of the Esherik house by Louis Khan. After some research I found that the windows were the most crucial part of the building so I began to produce a series of diagrams that
related to the use of windows and light.

AN ARTIST’S STUDIO ... SERGIO DEL VILLAR ...
The purpose of this project was to desing a house/gallery for an artist with living quarters, service spaces, and rooms to display their art. I designed a building for Mierle Laderman Ukeles, an artist that makes big sculptures using trash, and does some performance
art as well. My design consisted in imitating Louis Khan’s three strip layout of the esherik house, in a way that could maximize the gallery space in the building. Dimensions: 10.5inx8.5inx8.5in Material: 1/8”
AN ARTIST’S STUDIO ... SERGIO DEL VILLAR ...
The design consisted of three strips that would divide and organize the service, gallery and circulation spaces, while maximizing the gallery space to house big sculptures. The project would also allow tight circulation and would combine the
gallery and working spaces so that the artist could have the added benefit of her performance art.
