Memorial Park Conservancy’s Ima Hogg Volunteer Service Award is named in honor of Miss Ima Hogg for her tireless efforts in the championing for the public lands of Memorial Park. This award celebrates the same tireless efforts of park volunteers. The recipients of this annual award demonstrate a commitment to the mission of the Conservancy as they advance the projects and efforts that care for Memorial Park. This is achieved through leadership and, most importantly, by exhibiting selfless dedication to the restoration, preservation and enhancement of one of the largest parks in the nation.

Chairman Dear Friends of Memorial Park,
Steve Jenkins
In April of 2015, fans and supporters of Memorial Park celebrated Houston City Council’s approval of the long-range master plan, directing the future of Our Park. I am overjoyed to share this success, and thanks, with the many individuals and corporations who have committed to supporting the Gala, and to all who have contributed to Memorial Park Conservancy this year. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Additionally, I extend my deepest gratitude to Anita Smith, our 2016 Green Gala chair. Her dedication to the success of this event is marvelous, and we welcome the new friends she has introduced to Our Park.
Vice-Chairman
As we move forward with the passing of the master plan, we must acknowledge those who brought us to where we are now. Green Gala’s honoree, Jim Porter, is well-known to those who cherish Memorial Park. While he may not often take the spotlight, tonight is his night, as we celebrate him for his tireless efforts in progressing the Park forward. As former chair of the Conservancy, Jim played a crucial role in initiating the master planning process and building the Conservancy staff, and we celebrate his leadership and longstanding support of the Conservancy and Our Park.
Directors
Memorial Park is able to be the oasis that it is, and serve the needs of a wide variety of Houstonians, because of the support of the philanthropic community. Memorial Park Conservancy fills a vital role in caring for and improving Memorial Park in partnership with Houston Parks and Recreation Department, Uptown Houston TIRZ and the City of Houston. Through its charge of protecting, preserving and enhancing Memorial Park, the Conservancy connects giving hearts with practical and impactful ways to keep this public treasure thriving and accessible to all Houstonians. This is no small task, and includes caring for the ecological health of nearly 1,500 acres, maintaining trail systems, controlling invasive species, coordinating volunteer groups and managing the many issues that arise day-to-day in one of the largest urban parks in the nation. The love people have for this Park is never more evident than when they put their time and money to work for the benefit of the Park. Thank you for your dedication to allow us to make real and lasting improvements in Memorial Park.
