THANK YOU

Thank you for joining us at the 2023 Toronto Affinity celebration! Your presence and continued support is greatly valued. This Celebration would not be possible without the leadership, hard work and dedication of those who serve on the organizing committee, all of whom are good friends of Memorial University and the province of Newfoundland and Labrador. For months leading up to this evening, committee members worked tirelessly behind the scenes to prepare for this annual celebration, which we are thrilled is returning for the first time since 2019! Memorial’s Offices of Alumni Engagement and Development would like to sincerely thank these individuals and this knockout team for making this year’s celebration one to surely remember.

ENTERTAINMENT

Tom Power is a proud Memorial University alumnus, and the award-winning host of CBC’s Q . Tom’s heartfelt and enthusiastic interview style has attracted guests from around the world, including Harry Styles, Bono, Denzel Washington, Bruce Springsteen, Jerry Seinfeld, Lee Jung-Jae, Celine Dion, Guillermo del Toro, Janelle Monae and more. In 2021 Tom’s moving and insightful conversation with the iconic Canadian actor Michael J. Fox earned him and the Q Team the prestigious Gold medal for Best Interview at the New York Festivals Radio Awards. On the heels of that honour, Tom was granted an exclusive interview with Adele. Their intimate and in-depth conversation discussed life, love and struggles with fame. To date, the interview has garnered over 1.4 million views on YouTube and was a finalist for Best Interview at the 2022 New York Festivals Radio Awards.

His years at Memorial were instrumental. He began his radio career in his hometown of St. John’s, N.L., while studying folklore. Those days doing radio shows at CHMR, and sneaking in rehearsals with his band, The Dardanelles, in the School of Music’s practice rooms proved formative to his career.

Tom regards Memorial as the place that allowed him to find the things that most interested him, and where he found the support to pursue them.
