SETTING THE SCENE • Memphis hosts Christian Brothers Friday, Nov. 11 in the Tigers’ second exhibition contest of the 2011-12 season. Game time is 8 p.m. (CT) at FedExForum. The Tigers’ game follows the women’s squad season opener versus Saint Louis, which is slated for a 5 p.m. (CT) tip.

• The Tigers are ranked in both preseason national polls, coming in No. 11 in the Associated Press poll and No. 9 in the ESPN/USA Today coaches poll.

• Memphis defeated LeMoyne-Owen College 119-67 in its first exhibition game Nov. 2.

• Memphis returns all five starters and 10 letterwinners from last year’s squad.

• Christian Brothers enters Friday’s exhibition after a 76-54 exhibition contest loss at Arkansas Nov. 8.

• The Buccaneers return three starters and 12 letterwinners from last year’s squad.

• Joe Jackson was named the C-USA Tournament MVP. • With the C-USA Tournament title, Memphis earned the league’s automatic berth to the NCAA Tournament, where the No. 12 seed Tigers dropped a narrow 77-75 decision to No. 5 seed Arizona in the second round.

WHAT THE BUCS DID A YEAR AGO • Christian Brothers posted a 17-11 overall record and a 5-9 Gulf South Conference mark in 201011.

• The Buccaneers did not qualify for the 2011 Gulf South Conference Tournament.

The Buccaneers were 15-4 before the injury bug derailed their season.

Christian Brothers returns the 2010-11 GSC Freshman of the Year in Harry Green. The nowsophomore guard averaged 9.9 points and 3.1 boards a year ago.

The Bucs also return Scott Dennis, who averaged a double-double last season with 16.1 ppg and 11.6 rpg.

Head coach Mike Nienaber is in his 14th season at Christian Brothers. He has a 202-136 record at the school.

• Memphis has a 1-0 record when playing a regular-season contest on Veterans Day. • The Tigers defeated Savannah State 102-40 in the 2004-05 season opener, which was played on Veterans Day. That game was the openinground contest of the 2004 Coaches Vs. Cancer Classic.

MEMPHIS REPRESENTIN’ • The city of Memphis will be well represented in Friday’s exhibition contest between the Tigers and Buccaneers.

• The squads combine to have 12 players from Memphis area on the two rosters.

• Christian Brothers has four players — Stephen Duckett, Dominic Fragale, Harry Green and Drew Hildreth — that call the Bluff City home.

• On the Tigers’ side, eight players hail from the Memphis area. Drew Barham, Tarik Black, Chris Crawford, Trey Draper, Ferrakohn Hall, Joe Jackson, Preston Laird and Adonis Thomas all are from Memphis.

BARHAM TO REDSHIRT • Junior Drew Barham announced Nov. 8 that he will redshirt the 2011-12 season.

• The 6-foot-7 guard/forward played in 27 games and made 10 starts a year ago. He averaged 2.0 points and 1.5 boards in 2010-11.

TIGERS ON THE RADIO All Memphis basketball games are broadcast on the Tigers’ network flagship station, WREC 600AM. Dave Woloshin calls the playby-play, while Matt Dillon serves as the color analyst. Dillon and Forrest Goodman (in studio) host the pre- and postgame shows.

WREC 600AM also broadcasts Josh Pastner’s weekly radio show, which is held at the Lynchburg Legends Bar & Grill located in the East Memphis DoubleTree Inn. Forrest Goodman serves as host of the weekly call-in show.

The first Pastner radio weekly call-in show is scheduled for Nov. 29.

JOSH PASTNER TELEVISION SHOW Head coach Josh Pastner’s weekly television coach’s show is televised every Sunday night at 10 p.m. (CT) during the season by FOX 13/WHBQ-TV in Memphis. The show begins in early December. Dave Woloshin and Matt Stark serve as the show’s co-hosts.

• Tigers sophomore Joe Jackson and Bucs sophomore Harry Green were teammates at White Station High School and helped lead the Spartans to a state title and two state runner-up finishes. Memphis’ Ferrakohn Hall was also a teammate of Green for two seasons.

• Memphis junior Drew Barham and Christian Brothers sophomore Dominic Fragale were teammates at Christian Brothers High School and helped the squad to three-straight state title game appearances.

TIGERS, BUCS HAVE WIN STREAKS GOING • Tigers fans may be aware of their team’s stretch of 11-straight winning seasons entering the 2011-12 campaign. Memphis’ season winning streak began with the 2000-01 campaign and is tied for the second-longest streak of its kind in school history.

• On the other side, Christian Brothers brings a season winning streak of nine straight into 201112. The Buccaneers’ streak began in 2002-03.

OH BROTHER, BROTHER • Both Memphis and Christian Brothers have a set of brothers on each squad’s roster.

• The Barton brothers — Antonio and Will — are both sophomores and will wear the Blue and Gray in 2011-12.

• For the visitors, brothers Zack and Syd Warner will suit up for the Buccaneers. Zack is a redshirt senior, while Syd is a redshirt sophomore.

BLUFF CITY VERSUS QUEEN CITY • When Memphis and Christian Brothers face off Friday, it won’t just be a battle for city of Memphis pride. The game is also a battle between the Bluff City and Cincinnati, also known as the Queen City.

• The Tigers have eight players on the roster representing the city of Memphis.

• On the other bench, Christian Brothers has three players from Cincinnati. The three Buccaneers from the Queen City are Trey Casey, Scott Dennis and Daniel Wulker.

The Home of The Tigers The 2011-12 season marks the eighth for the Tigers in their home arena, FedExForum, which officially opened in September, 2004. Located just a few feet off Beale Street on historic Highway 61, FedExForum rises to extend the heart of the Memphis entertainment district.

Memphis plays all of its 2011-12 home contests in the 18,400seat arena, which serves as the host for the 2012 Conference USA Tournaments (men/women). FedExForum was also the host site for the 2005-09 Conference USA Tournaments, 2009 NCAA Men’s South Regional and 2010 NCAA Women’s South Regional.

At 135 feet high, FedExForum provides a new backdrop for historic Beale Street. The 805,850 square-feet arena, covering 13.8 acres, features five levels as well as state-of-the-art locker rooms and facilities for sports teams, as well as an exceptional dining and entertainment experiences for its patrons.

MEMPHIS RANKED IN PRESEASON POLLS • The Tigers find themselves in both national preseason polls this year, checking in at No. 11 in the Associated Press poll and No. 9 in the ESPN/USA Today coaches poll.

• It is the seventh time in the last eight seasons Memphis has been ranked in the preseason.

TIGERS PICKED TO WIN C-USA, EARN NCAA TOURNEY BID • In most preseason publications, Memphis is the favorite to win the 2011-12 Conference USA regular season crown. The Sporting News, Lindy’s, Athlon Sports and CBSSports.com all pick the Tigers to finish first in the C-USA regular season standings.

• Athlon Sports picked the Tigers to advance to the NCAA Tournament Sweet Sixteen.

• CBSSports.com’s Jerry Palm picked Memphis as the No. 2 seed in the South Region of the 2012 NCAA Tournament. The Tigers would open play against the No. 15 seed Hampton in Nashville.

• Lindy’s ranked Memphis No. 13 in its preseason magazine.

2012 Tigers Hoops Signee Damien Wilson 6-6/190 Mableton, Ga./Oak Hill Academy Wilson, who is finishing his senior year at Oak Hill Academy, is rated the No. 63 overall prospect in the Class of 2012 by ESPNU. Originally from the Atlanta area, Wilson was a member of the Atlanta Celtics AAU team, which has produced talent such as current NBA stars Josh Smith and Dwight Howard. A lefty that likes to slash in the lane to get his buckets, Wilson led his Oak Hill team last December with 20 points in an 80-59 win over Mel-

rose, which featured current Tiger Adonis Thomas. Oak Hill finished the season with a 31-4 record while Wilson, a former Mableton (Ga.) Pebblebrook High standout, averaged 12 points per game. Wilson is rated as the No. 18 shooting guard and No. 90 overall prospect by Yahoo! and Rivals Sports. Scout ranks him as a four-star prospect and the nation’s No. 21 overall small forward. Max Preps ranks him as the No. 1 prospect in the state of Virginia and the No. 23 overall recruit.

JOSH PASTNER Head Coach

49-20 Record 3rd Year in 2011-12 • A Kingwood, Texas, native, Pastner was hired as the University of Memphis’ 17th head coach on Apr. 7, 2009.

• Pastner has a record of 4920 at Memphis in his two seasons, the most victories by a Tigers head coach in that span of time.

• Last year, Pastner guided Memphis to a 25-10 overall record and a 10-6 Conference USA mark. The Tigers won the 2011 C-USA Tournament title and earned an NCAA Tournament berth.

• In his first year as head coach in 2009-10, Pastner’s Tigers posted a 24-10 overall and a 13-3 C-USA mark. Memphis earned a National Invitation Tournament (NIT) berth and advanced to the second round.

• Pastner served as an assistant coach for the Tigers in the 2008-09 season.

• Prior to joining the Memphis basketball family, Pastner spent 12 years of his college basketball life at Arizona as a player, staff member and assistant coach.

THOMAS SELECTED TO TISDALE WATCH LIST • Adonis Thomas was named to the 2011-12 the 2011-12 Wayman Tisdale Award preseason watch list, the United States Basketball Writers Association (USBWA) announced Oct. 20.

• The Tisdale Award is given annually to college basketball’s Freshman of the Year.

• Thomas was one of 12 freshmen from across the nation to be named to the Tisdale Award watch list.

• In 2009, Memphis’ Tyreke Evans was selected the USBWA National Freshman of the Year.

THREE TIGERS NAMED TO PRESEASON ALL-C-USA TEAMS • Three Tigers were named to the 2011-12 preseason All-Conference USA teams, as voted on by the league’s head coaches.

• Will Barton was a preseason All-C-USA first team pick, while Tarik Black and Joe Jackson were selected to the All-C-USA second team.

According to CBSSports.com, Memphis has four of college basketball’s 100 players on its rosters. The website lists Will Barton at No. 31, Adonis Thomas at No. 37, Tarik Black at No. 41 and Joe Jackson at No. 60.

CBSSports.com also lists Adonis Thomas as the No. 7 freshman in the nation and named him to its preseason Freshman All-America second team.

CBSSports.com lists Joe Jackson among its top-15 point guards in the nation (No. 11), Will Barton among its top-15 wing men (No. 14) and Tarik Black among its top-20 big men (No. 16).

In its C-USA preview online, CBSSports.com picked Tarik Black and Will Barton to its AllC-USA first team and Adonis Thomas and Joe Jackson to its second team. Black was named C-USA Player of the Year and Break-Through Player, while Thomas was selected the C-USA Newcomer of the Year.

On SI.com, Adonis Thomas was named one of the top 16 impact freshmen for 2011-12.

Thomas was ranked the No. 11 freshman on the SI.com list.

WHAT WE DID THIS PAST SUMMER • The Tigers were busy during the summer of 2011.

• Joe Jackson played with USA Basketball’s U19 squad that participated in the FIBA World Championships in Latvia in late June/early July.

He averaged just over 11 ppg in helping lead Team USA to a fifth-place finish at the Championships.

• Will Barton participated in the Chris Paul Elite Guard Camp in early June.

• Drew Barham played with an Athletes In Action squad that toured East Asia in June.

• Preston Laird was one of two Memphis student-athletes to attend in the NCAA Career in Sports Forum in mid-June.
