• With the C-USA Tournament title, Memphis earned the league’s automatic berth to the NCAA Tournament, where the No. 12 seed Tigers dropped a narrow 77-75 decision to No. 5 seed Arizona in the second round. WHAT THE MAGICIANS DID A YEAR AGO • LeMoyne-Owen College finished 2011-12 with a 10-19 overall record and a 9-15 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) mark (tied 8th place). • The Magicians lost to Paine 68-65 in their opening game of the SIAC Tournament. SCOUTING THE MAGICIANS • LeMoyne-Owen College won its 2011-12 season opener Oct. 29 with an 87-62 win over Rust College.

• Senior Teshawn Byron led four Magicians in double figures with a gamehigh 23 points. Brandon Hopson (18 points), Deyquan Nesbitt (12) and Calvin Stoudemire (10) also netted double figures. • LeMoyne-Owen finished 2011-12 with a 10-19 overall record and a 9-15 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) mark (tied 8th place). • The Magicians return five players from last year’s roster. • Junior forward Chris Brown is the team’s leading returning scorer at 8.1 ppg. • Senior forward Calvin Stoudemire is the Magicians’ top returning rebounder at 4.2 rpg.

Anderson is in his third season at the helm of the LeMoyne-Owen College program. • Anderson, who also serves as the school’s athletics director, has a 23-34 overall record in his two seasons. PASTNER IN THIRD YEAR AT MEMPHIS • Josh Pastner (Arizona, 1998) is in his third season as head coach at the University of Memphis • A Kingwood, Texas, native, Pastner was hired as the program’s 17th head coach on Apr. 7, 2009. • Pastner has a record of 49-20 at Memphis in his two seasons. • Last year, Pastner guided Memphis to a 2510 overall record and a 10-6 Conference USA mark. The Tigers won the 2011 C-USA Tournament title and earned an NCAA Tournament berth. • In his first year as head coach in 2009-10, Pastner’s Tigers posted a 24-10 overall and a 13-3 C-USA mark. Memphis earned a National Invitation Tournament (NIT) berth and advanced to the second round. • Pastner served as an assistant coach for the Tigers in the 2008-09 season. • Prior to joining the Memphis basketball family, Pastner spent 12 years of his college basketball life at Arizona as a player, staff member and assistant coach. • While in Tucson, Pastner was a member of Wildcats squads that made 12-straight NCAA Tournament appearances and posted a 290-103 record (1997-2008).

TIGERS ON THE RADIO All Memphis basketball games are broadcast on the Tigers’ network flagship station, WREC 600AM. Dave Woloshin calls the playby-play, while Matt Dillon serves as the color analyst. Dillon and Forrest Goodman (in studio) host the pre- and postgame shows. WREC 600AM also broadcasts Josh Pastner’s weekly radio show, which is held at the Lynchburg Legends Bar & Grill located in the East Memphis DoubleTree Inn. Forrest Goodman serves as host of the weekly call-in show. The first Pastner radio weekly call-in show is scheduled for Nov. 29.

JOSH PASTNER TELEVISION SHOW Head coach Josh Pastner’s weekly television coach’s show is televised every Sunday night at 10 p.m. (CT) during the season by FOX 13/WHBQ-TV in Memphis. The show begins in early December. Dave Woloshin and Matt Stark serve as the show’s co-hosts.

MEMPHIS REPRESENTIN’ • The city of Memphis will be well represented in Wednesday’s exhibition contest between the Tigers and Magicians. • The squads combine to have 10 players from Memphis area on the two rosters. • LeMoyne-Owen has two players — Brandon Hopson and Turio Tumblin — that call the Bluff City home. • On the Tigers’ side, eight players hail from the Memphis area. Drew Barham, Tarik Black, Chris Crawford, Trey Draper, Ferrakohn Hall, Joe Jackson, Preston Laird and Adonis Thomas all are from Memphis. DID YOU KNOW? • Memphis’ Josh Pastner and LeMoyne-Owen’s William Anderson were hired within two days of each other in the spring of 2009. • Memphis named Pastner its head coach on Apr. 7, 2009, while LeMoyne-Owen selected Anderson as its program’s mentor on Apr. 9, 2009. • Both Pastner and Anderson roamed the sidelines in their first games as head coaches against each other on Nov. 3, 2009. The Tigers won that exhibition encounter 98-68 at FedExForum. MEMPHIS RANKED IN PRESEASON POLLS • The Tigers find themselves in both national preseason polls this year, checking in at No. 11 in the Associated Press poll and No. 9 in the ESPN/ USA Today coaches poll. • It is the seventh time in the last eight seasons

Memphis has been ranked in the preseason. • The No. 11 Associated Press poll preseason ranking is the second-highest since the turn of century (2000-01). TIGERS PICKED TO WIN C-USA, EARN NCAA TOURNEY BID • In most preseason publications, Memphis is the favorite to win the 2011-12 Conference USA regular season crown. The Sporting News, Lindy’s, Athlon Sports and CBSSports.com all pick the Tigers to finish first in the C-USA regular season standings. • Athlon Sports picked the Tigers to advance to the NCAA Tournament Sweet Sixteen. • CBSSports.com’s Jerry Palm picked Memphis as the No. 2 seed in the South Region of the 2012 NCAA Tournament. The Tigers would open play against the No. 15 seed Hampton in

Nashville. • Lindy’s ranked Memphis No. 13 in its preseason magazine. • Blue Ribbon College Yearbook ranked the Tigers No. 12 in its preseason poll. WILL BARTON, JACKSON NAMED TO WOODEN AWARD WATCH LIST • Will Barton and Joe Jackson both were named to the 2011-12 John R. Wooden Award preseason watch list, The Los Angeles Athletic Club Wooden Award Committee announced on Oct. 3. • The Wooden Award has been given annually to college basketball’s Player of the Year since 1976. THOMAS SELECTED TO TISDALE WATCH LIST • Adonis Thomas was named to the 2011-12 the 2011-12 Wayman Tisdale Award preseason watch list, the United States Basketball Writers Association (USBWA) announced Oct. 20. • The Tisdale Award is given annually to college basketball’s Freshman of the Year. • Thomas was one of 12 freshmen from across the nation to be named to the Tisdale Award watch list. • In 2009, Memphis’ Tyreke Evans was selected the USBWA National Freshman of the Year. THREE TIGERS NAMED TO PRESEASON ALL-C-USA TEAMS • Three Tigers were named to the 2011-12 preseason All-Conference USA teams, as voted on by the league’s head coaches.

The Home of The Tigers The 2011-12 season marks the eighth for the Tigers in their home arena, FedExForum, which officially opened in September, 2004. Located just a few feet off Beale Street on historic Highway 61, FedExForum rises to extend the heart of the Memphis entertainment district. Memphis plays all of its 2011-12 home contests in the 18,400seat arena, which serves as the host for the 2012 Conference USA Tournaments (men/women). FedExForum was also the host site for the 2005-09 Conference USA Tournaments, 2009 NCAA Men’s South Regional and 2010 NCAA Women’s South Regional. At 135 feet high, FedExForum provides a new backdrop for historic Beale Street. The 805,850 square-feet arena, covering 13.8 acres, features five levels as well as state-of-the-art locker rooms and facilities for sports teams, as well as an exceptional dining and entertainment experiences for its patrons.

• Will Barton was a preseason All-C-USA first team pick, while Tarik Black and Joe Jackson were selected to the All-C-USA second team. • In 2010-11, Barton was a preseason All-C-USA second team pick as a freshman.

Last year, the Tigers had one of the most inexperienced teams in college basketball, and the numbers entering the season revealed that. Well, a year later, the tune has changed with the numbers showing Memphis returning a lot of experience in 2011-12.

MORE PRESEASON HONORS FOR TIGERS • In Lindy’s hoops magazine, three Tigers were named to its All-Conference USA teams. Joe Jackson was selected to the first team, Will Barton the second team and Tarik Black the third team. • In The Sporting News college basketball preview, Will Barton and Tarik Black were named to the All-Conference USA Team. • Also in The Sporting News, Chris Crawford was selected Conference USA’s Best Passer, Tarik Black C-USA’s Best Shot Blocker, Antonio Barton the league’s Best Under Pressure, Adonis Thomas C-USA’s Top Freshman and Top NBA Prospect and head coach Josh Pastner the conference’s Best Recruiter and Best Interview. Memphis was rated the league’s Best Homecourt Advantage. • According to CBSSports.com, Memphis has four of college basketball’s 100 players on its rosters. The website lists Will Barton at No. 31, Adonis Thomas at No. 37, Tarik Black at No. 41 and Joe Jackson at No. 60. • CBSSports.com also lists Adonis Thomas as the No. 7 freshman in the nation and named him to its preseason Freshman All-America second team. • CBSSports.com lists Joe Jackson among its top-15 point guards in the nation (No. 11), Will Barton among its top-15 wing men (No. 14) and Tarik Black among its top-20 big men (No. 16). • In its C-USA preview online, CBSSports.com picked Tarik Black and Will Barton to its AllC-USA first team and Adonis Thomas and Joe Jackson to its second team. Black was named C-USA Player of the Year and Break-Through Player, while Thomas was selected the C-USA Newcomer of the Year.

WHAT WE DID THIS SUMMER • The Tigers were busy during the summer of 2011. • Joe Jackson played with USA Basketball’s U19 squad that participated in the FIBA World Championships in Latvia in late June/early July. He averaged just over 11 ppg in helping lead Team USA to a fifth-place finish at the Championships. • Will Barton participated in the Chris Paul Elite Guard Camp in early June. • Drew Barham played with an Athletes In Action squad that toured East Asia in June. • Preston Laird was one of two Memphis student-athletes to attend in the NCAA Career in Sports Forum in mid-June.

HOME SWEET HOME • The Tigers have eight players on their 2011-12 roster that call Memphis home. Drew Barham, Tarik Black, Chris Crawford, Trey Draper, Ferrakohn Hall, Joe Jackson, Preston Laird and Adonis Thomas all are from the Bluff City. • The 2011-12 Tigers have the most players from the city of Memphis on its roster since 1995-96 when there were nine players that called the Bluff City home. • Since 1981-82 (30 seasons ago), this year’s eight players from the city of Memphis are tied for the seventh-most on a Tigers roster and the following shows that: Year # of Players 1994-95 11 1993-94 10 1991-92 10 1985-86 10 1995-96 9 1984-85 9
