• Memphis dropped its road opener last year with a 104-84 setback to Tennessee in Knoxville. • The last time the Tigers won their road opener was the 2007-08 campaign, a 65-41 victory over Middle Tennessee in Nashville (NOTE: This contest was a road game — even though it was not played on-campus — because Middle Tennessee was in charge of the tickets for the game, which is the criteria the NCAA uses to determine if the game is away or neutral.)

AN EARLY ROAD OPENER • Memphis’ Tuesday road opener at Miami, Fla., is the program’s earliest since the 2005-06 campaign. • In that 2005-06 season, the Tigers’ second game of the campaign was on the road at Alabama on Nov. 17, 2005. Memphis won the game 87-76. • The game at Alabama was a second-round contest in the 2005 NIT Season Tip-Off. • Last year, the Tigers’ first “true” road game was a Jan. 5, 2011, contest at Tennessee. It tied for the latest road opener since 1975-76. IT’S RAINING THREES • The Tigers hit 15 three-pointers in their win over Austin Peay Dec. 3. • The 15 treys made are tied for the second-most in a single game in school history. • The 15 three-pointers were one shy of tying the school record, which was 16 versus Marquette on Feb. 14, 2004. • The Tigers lead Conference USA in three-point field goal percentage at 44.2 percent. TIGERS NON-CONFERENCE SUCCESS • Since 1999-2000, the Tigers have a non-conference record (including postseason) of 165-57 for a 74.3 winning percentage. • In 2010-11, Memphis had a 15-4 record against non-conference opponents (including postseason). “CLOSE-CALL” PASTNER • In 2011-12, Memphis is 1-1 in single-digit outcome games, with both being overtime contests in the 2011 EA Sports Maui Invitational. • This season, the Tigers are also 1-1 in games decided by five or fewer points. • Last season, Memphis had a 16-3 record in games decided by single digits, including a 13-2 mark in contests decided by five or fewer points.

LAST MEETING

#19/19 Memphis 72, Miami 68 Nov. 15, 2010 In a game that had 58 fouls, 13 ties and 15 lead changes, No. 19/19 Memphis scrapped its way to a 72-68 non-conference victory over Miami (Fla.) to tip off ESPN’s 24 Hours of Hoops in front of 17,783 raucous fans at FedExForum. Trailing 63-59 after a three-point bucket by Malcolm Grant at the four-minute mark in the second half, Wesley Witherspoon intercepted a pass near mid-court and fed a streaking Chris Crawford to narrow the margin to 63-61. After a missed shot by Miami, Witherspoon drew a foul and calmly stepped to the line and knocked down two from the charity stripe to even the mark at 63 with 2:26 to play. Miami countered as Durand Scott drew another foul and made two free throws to put the Hurricanes back in front 65-63. Crawford again answered the bell, this time with a corner trifecta that sent FedExForum into a frenzy and put Memphis ahead 66-65. Scott went back to the line on the next possession, this time making one of two to again tie the ballgame at 66. Charles Carmouche and Joe Jackson would each make a pair of free throws to keep the Canes’ late push at bay before Antonio Barton’s free throw with 1.5 seconds left put the game out of reach 72-68. Jackson finished with 17 points on 5-of-11 shooting to lead the Tigers, who won despite shooting just 33.9 percent and getting dominated 51-31 on the glass. Carmouche added 13 points, including 8-of-10 from the charity stripe, and five steals in a team-high 31 minutes. Witherspoon (12) and Antonio Barton (10) were the only other Tigers that finished in double figures. The Miami backcourt of Scott and Grant, which came in averaging a combined 43 points, didn’t disappoint. The duo combined for nearly half of Miami’s points. Scott finished with 20 on 5-of-11 field goals and 9-of-11 free throws, while Grant finished with 18 points. Hurricane center Reggie Johnson, who was limited in the first half due to foul trouble, found a rhythm after the break and finished with a double-double of 12 points and 12 rebounds. Memphis held Arian Foster, who led the ACC in threepoint shooting last season with a mark of 42.1 percent, scoreless in 22 minutes of action. Foster finished 0-of-4 from the arc, and Miami shot just 15.8 percent as a team from three. Miami Thomas Jones Johnson Scott Grant Akpejiori Brown Kirk Gamble TEAM Totals
