TIGERS TRYING TO AVOID ... • When they host N.C. Central Monday, the Tigers will look to avoid a couple of bad skids. • First, Memphis will try to avoid back-to-back losses since the start of the 2012-13 season. The last time the Tigers dropped consecutive games was in the 2012 Battle 4 Atlantis, where they fell to VCU and Minnesota — a stretch of 72 games ago. • Next, the Tigers will try to avoid back-to-back home losses since the end of the 2004-05 regular season. Memphis lost to Louisville and Cincinnati in its final two home contests that season. • Next, Memphis will try to avoid consecutive non-conference setbacks since December of 2004 when the Tigers lost to Louisiana Tech and Providence. • And finally, the Tigers will try to avoid the program’s first 3-5 start since 2000-01. That season, Memphis opened the campaign with a 3-6 record. TRACKING TIGERS DOUBLE-DOUBLES • Sophomore Austin Nichols recorded the Tigers’ latest double-double with his 11-point, 13-rebound performance against Oklahoma State Dec. 13. • Nichols’ 13 boards were a career high. • The following tracks Memphis’ double-doubles this season: Player/Opponent Dbl-Dbl Nichols/Oklahoma State..................... 11-13^ Goodwin/Bradley................................ 15-12# ^ career high # tied career high
IT’S A BLOCK PARTY • For sophomore Austin Nichols, the early portion of the 2014-15 campaign has become his own personal block party. • After seven games, the 6-foot-8 forward has 22 blocked shots, which is over half his blocks total from a season ago (42). • His career blocked shots total is 64. • Nichols has recorded six multi-block performances in the Tigers’ first seven games. • With his six multi-block games this season, the Collierville, Tenn., native now has 18 multiblock contests. • The following tracks Nichols’ multi-block games this season: Nichols’ Multi-Block Games 2014-15 Opponent No. of Blks Oklahoma State..........................................3 Bradley........................................................4 Stephen F.
