• Pastner, in his early 20s at the time, nearly got the job. • According to then Prairie View Director of Athletics Charles McClelland, Pastner was one of five finalists for the position. HEY, WE REMEMBER YOU! • When the Prairie View A&M players look at the Memphis bench Monday, they’ll see a familiar face. • Last season, current Tiger Calvin Godfrey was a member of the Southern University squad that played Prairie View A&M three times. • In those three games, Godfrey, the 2013-14 SWAC Newcomer of the Year, averaged 13.0 points and 6.7 rebounds. • He also shot 59.1 percent from the field and 68.4 percent from the charity stripe in those three meetings against the Panthers. • Last season’s third encounter versus Prairie View A&M was painful for Godfrey and his Southern teammates, as the Panthers upset the No. 1 seed Jaguars in the SWAC Tournament quarterfinal round. DOUBLE-FIGURE COLLEGIATE DEBUTS • It was only their first NCAA Division I game, but junior college transfers Trahson Burrell and Avery Woodson put together solid performances against Wichita State Nov. 18. • Burrell scored 11 points on 5-of-7 FG and 1-of-2 FT. He also pulled down four rebounds. • Woodson netted 10 points on 4-of-8 FG and 2-of-4 treys. He hit his first NCAA Division I

three-pointer at the 17:10 mark of the second half. IT’S A BLOCK PARTY • For sophomore Austin Nichols, the Tigers’ Nov. 18 season opener was his own personal block party. • The 6-foot-8 forward blocked a game-high six shots versus the Shockers. • The six blocks were one shy of tying his career high of seven in last season’s home win over Temple (Feb. 22, 2014). • The six-block performance against Wichita State was his 13th multi-block game of his career. • The Collierville, Tenn., native now has 48 career blocked shots. TIGERS’ M*A*S*H UNIT • Josh Pastner and his players have stated over and over that this has been the most physical preseason in his six seasons as head coach. • And the numbers prove it. • Eight Tigers, including seven on scholarship, have suffered injuries or illnesses that forced them to miss practices. • The cumulative number of practices missed has been 62 to date (as of Nov. 23). • The following lists the players, their injuries/illnesses and number of practices missed:
