Last Time on the Course... The Cardinal Cup (Louisville) LOUISVILLE, Ky . – With three women’s golfers finishing in the top seven, the Lady Tiger golf team picked up a second consecutive runner-up finish in as many tournaments in the Cardinal Cup, played at the University of Louisville Golf Club. Freshman Michaela Fletcher (Pietermaritzburg, South Africa) finished as the individual runner up in her first collegiate tournament, firing a third round 75 (+3) to put a solid finish on her first college competition. Fletcher missed the Lady Tigers’ opener while she was representing her native South Africa in the World Amateur Team Championships in Japan. With her 217, Fletcher ties Marissa Steen’s Low 54 hole mark that currently ranks sixth in school history. Another Lady Tiger underclassman also posted a top five finish as freshman Emily Goldenstein (Chesterfield, Mo./Parkway West HS) carded a final round 76 (+4) to finish with a 221 in her second college outing, good enough for a tie for fifth. Goldenstein picked up a pair of front nine birdies and posted par on seven of the last nine holes to notch her first career top five finish. Sophomore Leighann Cabush (Waukesha, Wis./Kettle Moraine HS) also finished in a tie inside the top 10, carding a day three 71 (-1) to wrap up an impressive bounce back from an opening round 80 to finish inside the top 10. The sophomore posted four birdies on the front nine holes and was one of just five players to go under par in the third round. Senior Ashley Kees (Fort Wayne, Ind./Carroll HS) rounded out the Memphis scorers with a final day 78 (+6). Teammate Ashleigh Whisenant (Attalla, Ala./Etowah HS) also competed in the team portion of the event over the three rounds, coming back from a second round 81 to post a third round 79 to finish 64th overall. Junior Julia Gerlach (Munich, Germany) also competed at the event as an individual and saved her best score for the third round, posting a 76 (+4) to finish with a 236, good enough for a tie for 53rd with teammate Kees.
