SETTING THE SCENE • Memphis (12-4, 3-2 The American) continues its four-game homestand Jan. 18 against nonconference foe LeMoyne-Owen College (4-9, 2-4 SIAC). SportSouth is televising Saturday’s 1 p.m. (CT) contest from FedExForum. • The Memphis-LeMoyne-Owen College game also can be viewed via the web at ESPN3.com/ WatchESPN. • Following Saturday’s contest, the Tigers’ homestand continues with Houston Jan. 23 and USF Jan. 26. Memphis opened the homestand with an 83-73 setback to Connecticut Jan. 16. • The Tigers remained in both national polls released Jan. 13. Memphis moved up to the No. 17 spot in the Associated Press (AP) and USA Today coaches polls. • Memphis enters Saturday’s non-conference encounter having won 11 of its last 14 games. The 11 victories came over Nicholls, Siena, LSU, No. 5/8 Oklahoma State, Northwestern State, UALR, Southeast Missouri, Jackson State, USF, No. 8/12 Louisville and Temple. The Tigers’ three setbacks were to No. 16/17 Florida 77-75 in the 2013 Jimmy V Classic, Cincinnati 69-53 and Connecticut 83-73. • The Tigers are 6-2 at FedExForum this season, with the league losses to Cincinnati and Connecticut. • Memphis returns three starters, but only five letterwinners from last year’s squad.
