Tigers Take on TSU in First of Two NonConference Contests, This Week Although Friday’s doubleheader with Murray State was washed out due to weather, the Tigers will continue their trek through the break with no conference play by traveling to Sherwood, Arkansas, for a single game with SEC foe Arkansas, Tuesday. Though struggling this season, the Razorbacks are 9-5 in neutral site contests. They are led by senior outfielder Becca Carden, the only Razorback regular hitting above .300, at .336, and owner of six of Arkansas’ 18 home runs as a squad. It should be another productive weekend for the University of Memphis bats; the Razorback pitching staff is giving up, on average, twice as many earned runs as their opponents (4.56 to 2.13). Last Meeting with Arkansas For the Tigers, this will be the second meeting with Arkansas, who dropped the U of M by a score of 6-1 on April 21, 2010, at the Sherwood Sports Complex. In that game, sophomore Carly Hummel pitched 2.2 innings, allowing just one run. Memphis senior Heather Mott scored the Tigers lone run in that contest. Live Coverage Tuesday’s game at Arkansas can be followed through live stats provided by CBS College Sports GameTracker. Live chat provided by Memphis Media Relations will also be available for each game. Links to the live chat and GameTracker can be found at GoTigersGo.com. Memphis Media Relations will also provide UStream video access, for which a link will be provided at GoTigersGo.com. On Deck After what seems like a long hiatus from Conference USA play, the Tigers will get back into the C-USA grind this weekend, hosting UCF in a three-gamer that will begin with a Friday, April 22, doubleheader with first pitch scheduled for 5 p.m. Saturday’s single game will begin at 1 p.m., with the weekend ending early due to the Easter holidays. Leading Off Since sliding into the role of the lead-off hitter
in the final game of the Houston series, senior Heather Mott has been on a tear. The Pensacola, Fla., product has batted .487 with with three home runs and 14 RBI, reaching base at least once in every contest. Mott started the season penciled into the No. 2 slot after leading off for much of last season. Against Arkansas, she will put her season-best eight game hitting streak on the line. Hummel Tosses Third No-Hitter of Season, Tigers Sweep TSU The Tigers began their off week from Conference USA play with a bang, sweeping Tennessee State, Wednesday. In the first game, the Tigers pounded out a dozen hits, with Heather Mott going 3-for-4 with three RBI in a 7-2 win. Lauren Carley picked up the win in relief, scattering two hits in 3.1 innings and striking out three. In game two, sophomore ace Carly Hummel picked up her third no-hitter of 2011, striking out 13 in five innings for her season’s 15th victory. It marked the third game in a row that Hummel has struck out 10 or more batters. At the plate, four Tigers (Mott, Bernardino, Phillips and Goranson) collected two hits apiece and the Tigers ran their string of games with double-digit hits to six. Maddie McKinley also drove in two runs in the game. Memphis Sweeps Marshall in Two Games Memphis took both conference games at Marshall, last weekend, to improve to 25-10 (8-6 C-USA). In the first game Saturday, the Tigers piled on 10 runs in a 10-3 romp for Carly Hummel’s 14th win of the season. Jessica Phillips hit her season’s 11th home run in the game, which was delayed five hours due to weather. The second game was pushed to Sunday due to darkness, and the Tigers won it, 7-4, behind 5.2 innings of three-hit relief work by Lauren Carley for the win. Maddie McKinley and Kailey Kassner homered to give Memphis its 25th win, equaling last season’s total. The third game of the series was cancelled due to time constraints and will not be made up. Historic Home Run Barrage Downs UTEP The Tigers scored 30 runs in the series at El Paso, with game three dominated by the long
