Wednesday, A pril 6 Doubleheader Tiger Softball Complex, Memphis, Tenn. Live Web Coverage: Live Chat / G ameTracker / A ll-Access Video

SWAC Foe Alabama State Scheduled for Midweek Game at TSC The Tigers will be on the rebound after getting swept by Tulsa over the weekend, and will look to take out some of that frustration on visiting Alabama State in a mid-week, non-conference doubleheader. Alabama State enters with a strong offensive side that’s currently hitting at a .295 clip; that offsets a pitching staff that’s currently sporting an 8.35 earned run average. Last Year Against the Hornets In their first-ever meeting with Alabama State, the Tigers swept a mid-April home doubleheader with the visitors. In the first game, Lauren Carley threw a one-hitter, striking out eight for the 2-0 win. Keanah Prestridge was 2-for-2 with an RBI as the Tigers ran wild on the bases, stealing five bases. In the second game, Carly Hummel threw a one-hitter of her own, striking out 15. Jessica Phillips doubled twice and Maddie McKinley drove in two runs for the 5-0 victory. Live Coverage Wednesday’s doubleheader against Alabama State can be followed through live stats provided by CBS College Sports GameTracker. April 9’s doubleheader will begin at 1 p.m., while the April 10 game will kick off at noon. The Tigers will host another midweek non-conference contest, next Wednesday, against Tennessee State. Tiger Bats Go Cold Against Tulsa After an historic hitting weekend in El Paso, the Tigers returned home to host Tulsa, who entered the weekend in second place in Conference USA. The Golden Hurricane swept into Memphis and swept the Tigers, whose batting was not up to the same standards as the previuos week’s contest. The Tigers dropped the opener,

4-1, with Carly Hummel going the distance and striking out nine in the loss. Heather Mott scored the Tigers lone run on a wild pitch. Game two was an extra-inning affair; both teams scored in the first, with Maddie McKinley bringing around Mott with a sac fly. Janelle Valle danced out of trouble for 5.1 innings, scattering seven hits before giving way to Lauren Carley. The Golden Hurricane pushed ahead in the eighth on a solo homer and Memphis couldn’t muster a response in the bottom half for the loss. In Sunday’s finale, Carley pitched five innings, but the offense was anemic, ultimately leading to a 7-0 defeat. Historic Home Run Barrage Downs UTEP Memphis scored 33 runs on 30 hits over the course of three games in El Paso, sweeping the Miners and solidifying Memphis’ hold on third place in Conference USA. Game One was a close affair, with the Tigers coming back from an early 2-0 deficit to win, 5-3. Senior Heather Mott homered and Alyssa Palmieri led Memphis with two hits and the game-winning RBI for Carly Hummel, who came on in relief for the win. Game two was blown open by an eight-run Tiger fifth inning, highlighted by Memphis extrabase hits from Ashleigh King and Palmieri; King had a single and a double in the inning and the Tigers run-ruled UTEP, 13-3. The series finale was dominated by the long ball, with junior Jessica Phillips hitting a school-record three home runs, including a walk-off grand slam, and senior Maddie McKinley adding two home runs of her own in a 15-6 rout. Hummel picked up the win, her 13th of the season, throwing three innings and limiting UTEP to two earned runs. It was the Tigers first-ever road series win against UTEP. First National RPI Announced; Memphis Cracks Top 50 While the love from the polls has been lacking of late, the first Ratings Percentage Index (RPI) rankings of 2011 put Memphis softball in rarified air. The Tigers checked in at 40th in the nation in the first RPI of 2011, their highest spot in school history, and up more than 60 spots from last season’s end point of 105th. The Tigers are one of five C-USA schools (Houston, 30th; East Carolina, 39th; Tulsa, 42nd; and UAB, 46th) to land in the top 50 of the first poll, which is based
