This marks the second-straight season the Tigers open with the tournament host. Last year Memphis fell to East Carolina in Greenville, N.C., 5-1. The winner of the contest will play the winner of the 3/6 matchup between Marshall and East Carolina on Friday at 4:30 p.m. in the semifinals. The C-USA Championship will be on Saturday at 1 p.m. and is televised by the CBS Sports Network. Live Coverage Online video is available for all of the games in the tournament except for the championship game through the C-USA Digital Network. Memphis Quick Hits • Memphis is hitting .278 as a team in the last 21 games and are 11-10 during the stretch. The stretch includes two games against Tennessee and three contests against Tulsa and UCF and one against Mississippi State. • Laura Curtis is hitting .371 in the last 21 games with 14 RBI and 12 runs scored. Ijiah Hargrove is 7-for-18 (.389) in the last 10 games Memphis is hitting .267 in its last 10 games. The Tigers’ pitching staff has a 4.22 ERA in the last 10 games with 34 strikeouts and 27 walks in 66.1 innings. Lauren Carley leads the staff with a 2.55 ERA and a 1-0 record in 11 innings pitched. Memphis has the 147th-ranked RPI. Memphis is 3-20 against teams ranked in the top 50 RPI.
Last Week Memphis went 1-2 in a three-game series at home against East Carolina to end the regular season. The Tigers saw multiple-run leads evaporate in the final two innings of games one and two. The Tigers lost game one 5-4 after leading 4-1 in the sixth inning. Memphis lost game two 4-3 in eight innings after holding a 3-1 lead heading to the sixth. The Tigers won the final game of the series 5-3. Last Year in C-USA Tournament Memphis earned its highest ever seeding in 2011, entering the tournament as the fourth seed. The Tigers played No. 5 seed and tournament host East Carolina in the opening game and lost 5-1. Jessica Phillips hit a solo home run in the game off ECU ace Toni Paisley. Tournament History For the sixth season in a row, the Tigers have qualified for the C-USA tournament. In three of their past five trips to the C-USA tournament, Memphis has been victorious in the opening round. Memphis is 3-6 all-time in the tournament and reached the semifinals for the first time in 2010 as the No. 7 seed after upsetting No. 2 seed Tulsa in the opening round. No seven seed has ever won the tournament with the lowest ranked seed to win being East Carolina last year as the No. 5 seed. In the current format of
