Memphis Hosts Marshall in Conference Home Opener The University of Memphis softball team (6-19) opens up its home Conference USA schedule with a three-game series against Marshall on Saturday and Sunday. The two teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 4 p.m. and close with a noon contest on Sunday.

Tigers Make TV Debut Memphis will make its softball television debut on Saturday with the first game of a doubleheader with Marshall being televised on Fox Sports Southwest at 4 p.m. Tracy Warren will be calling the play-by-play with Bruce Howard providing the color analyst. The game will also be on several of the Fox Network channels. Check your local listing to find which one is broadcasting the game in your area.
Last Week Memphis went 1-4 last week with a midweek doubleheader split at Alcorn State and were swept in a three-game series at UAB to open the Conference USA season. Memphis lost all three games to UAB by two runs or less and allowed no more than four runs in a game.
Memphis Quick Hits • Memphis is 2-8 in its last 10 games and has lost 17 of its last 21 contests. • Junior shortstop Morgan Mosby leads the team with a .350 batting average and has seven RBI and eight runs scored. Mosby hit .500 in five games last week, including a career best 4-for-4 performance in game two against UAB. • Senior first baseman Jessica Phillips leads the team with 14 RBI and five doubles. • Senior second baseman Alyssa Palmieri leads the team with two triples and had a career best four RBI against Alcorn State. • Sophomore Ellen Roberts leads the team with a 3.59 ERA and 64 strikeouts in 78 innings pitched. • The Tigers are hitting .389 with the bases loaded (7-of-18). • Freshman pitcher Jordan Richwood is leading the team with a 7.73 strikeouts per game average. • Morgan Mosby leads the team with eight multiple hit games, while Jessica Phillips is the leader with five multiple RBI contests.
This Week Memphis defeated UT Martin 3-1 on Wednesday. The Tigers scored three runs on three hits and three errors in the fourth inning to snap a four-game losing streak. Ellen Roberts allowed one run on five hits with five strikeouts for her fourth victory of the season. Laura Curtis hit her first career home run and Jessica Phillips had an RBI double. On Deck Memphis will hit the road again for a five-game stretch. The Tigers will play a midweek doubleheader at Samford in Birmingham, Ala., on Tuesday, March 20, and then travel to Houston for a three-game series on Saturday and Sunday, March 24-25. Marshall Quick Hits • Marshall leads the nation in stolen bases with 72 steals in 83 attempts. The Herd is averaging 3.27 steals per game. Junior OF Ashley Gue leads the team with 16, while junior OF Taylor Thompson and senior OF Jessica Hughes each have 14. • Marshall has three players in the top 26 in the nation in stolen bases. Ashley Gue ranks 12th with a 0.73 average per game (16-for-17), Jessica Hughes is 19th at 0.67 (14-for-15) and Taylor Thompson is 26th at 0.64 (14-for-14).
