Live Web Coverage: G ameTracker / A ll-Access Video Tigers Host Southern Miss for Three-Game Series at the Tiger Softball Complex The University of Memphis softball team (9-26, 0-9 C-USA) hosts the University of Southern Mississippi (10-18, 2-7 C-USA) for a three-game conference series on Saturday and Sunday. The two teams will play a doubleheader at the Tiger Softball Complex on Saturday starting at 1 p.m. and then close with a 1 p.m. contest on Sunday. Memphis Quick Hits • Memphis claimed both games against Murray State, its first two-game win streak of the season, on Wednesday. • Ellen Roberts threw a complete-game nohitter, the ninth in program history, in the Tigers 1-0 win in the opening game against the Racers. Roberts is only the fourth Tiger to throw a no-hitter. • Jordan Richwood fanned a career-high 11 batters in a four-hit shutout in the second game. • Morgan Mosby scored both runs for the Tigers, giving her a team-leading 14 runs scored on the season. • Mosby (.361, .440) and Jessica Phillips (.349, .406) lead the team in batting with runners on base and with runners in scoring position. Last Week Memphis posted a 1-4 record last week, splitting a double-header with Samford and getting swept by Conference USA-foe Houston. The Tigers’ bats came alive in the opening game against Houston, scoring 11 runs on 14 hits. But the U of M struggle in the other four games, scoring only one run.
This Week The U of M picked up a pair of 1-run shutout victories against Murray State on Wednesday evening. Ellen Roberts posted a complete-game no-hitter in the opening game, allowing only one runner on a walk in the fifth inning. Jordan Richwood followed with a career-high 11 strikeouts in the second game. On Deck Memphis will have a five-day break between games. The Tigers will travel to Tulsa for a threegame series April 6-7. Saturday’s double-header will begin at 3 p.m. and Sunday’s game is slated for a noon start. Southern Miss Quick Hits • Southern Miss enters the game 10-18, but only 1-6 in its last seven games. • In the last seven games, Southern Miss have given up five-or-more runs six times. • Caroline Walker leads four Golden Eagles batting over .300 with a .368 average. • Leslie Lejune has 18 RBI to lead the team and Stephani Shiflet has scored 21 times on the season. • Courtney Ramos (3.58 ERA) and Beth Dietrich (4.04) hold identical 4-7 records to pace the pitching staff. • Southern Miss pitchers are allowing hitters to bat at a .313 clip against them. History Versus Southern Miss Memphis holds a 9-8 all-time advantage over Southern Miss and has won the last four games. The Tigers swept a three-game series on the road at Hattiesburg last year. Twelve of the 17 games in the series have been decided by three runs or less, including the last eight games. In Memphis, the Tigers are 4-5 all-time against the Golden Eagles. Memphis lost two of three games to Southern Miss in 2010 and came back from a doubleheader sweep to beat the Golden Eagles 3-2 in 10 innings in a game that marked the beginning of the four-game winning streak for Memphis.
