Notes

S c o u t i n g L o u i s v i ll e The Cardinals earned the top spot in the Preseason Coaches’ Poll with 79 points, including seven first place votes. Teammates Brook Mattingly and Emily Juhl were named Preseason Co-Players of the Year, while Hannah Kvitle and Caitlin Welch joined them on the Preseason All-Conference team. Through 10 matches and 35 sets the Cardinals have a 4-6 record, but have three losses against top-25 teams in No. 2 Penn State, No. 4 Minnesota and a tough 5-set loss against No. 19 Kentucky. Seniors Randi Ewing and Brooke Mattingly rank second and third in hitting percentage for the American Athletic Conference, at .396 and .353 respectively.

S couting C incinnati The Bearcats were picked to finish fourth in the inaugural Preseason Coaches poll for the American, but with six true freshman and only five upper classmen on the team they have struggled in the preconference season, going 0-13 with tough games against No. 24 North Carolina and No. 21 Western Kentucky earlier this season, along with a recent game against No. 14 Michigan State. The Bearcats have hit .085 on the year, last in the conference, while opponents are hitting .265 against them . Freshman Ciara Hill leads the team with 89 kills, followed by junior Me’Ashah Nicholson with 81 and Amelia Wegman with 73. Kristin Conor leads the Bearcats with 182 assists, followed by Madi Lang with 141.
