Spending the first two weekends of conference play on the road, the Tigers split the first weekend against Louisville and Cincinnati and then lost to Temple the following weekend. Memphis returned to the Elma Roane Fieldhouse for a home stand of five games in nine days. The Tigers dropped the first three games, to SMU, Houston and Tennessee State, but recovered to take down Rutgers and UConn to finish out the home stand. The Tigers finished the first half of their conference season when they traveled to Florida to take on USF and UCF, dropping both matches 3-1. Memphis is seventh out of 10 teams halfway through the conference season, ahead of UConn, Cincinnati and Rutgers, all teams the Tigers defeated the first half of the conference play.
