Heading Into the Match-Up With UCA:

Memphis is set to face Central Arkansas after defeating Conference USA-foe Kentucky, 2-0, at Mike Rose Soccer Complex. The Tigers used a 74th-minute goal from freshman Wil Linder and an insurance goal from sophomore Mark Sherrod in the 78th minute to secure the victory. Linder scored on a header, served by Jordan Johnson, that went over the outstretched hands of UK goalkeeper Tyler Beadle and knicked the cross bar. The ball was able to slide past the goal line before Beadle could gather the ball. The Tigers kept the pressure on and Sherrod scored the insurance goal just under four minutes later. Linder sent a ball into the box for Parker Duncan, who played a pass to the waiting foot of Sherrod on the other side of the box. Conor Hurley posted his C-USA-leading sixth save of the season. Memphis’ defense deserves considerable credit, as the backline forced 11 Wildcat-offside penalties in the game.

Player Spotlight

J.J. Greer Junior Defender

J.J. Greer, a vital piece to the Tiger defense, was named the “Man of the Match” following Memphis’ 2-0 win over Kentucky on Sunday. Greer was instrumental in forcing 11-offside calls on the Wildcats. Furthermore, the Wildcat offense is one of the best in the country and Greer was aggressive in clearing crosses and balls played into the box. Greer has played every minute of the season as a defender in front of goalkeeper Conor Hurley and has been a key cog in shutting down opposing offenses. The Tigers have six shutouts on the season, thanks to the play of Greer and the rest of the Tiger backline.
