Heading Into the Match-Up With UCF:

Memphis used a pair of goals from Mark Sherrod to defeat Central Arkansas in an unusual match-up on a Wednesday afternoon. Liam Collins took a ball in the left side of the box and played it through the box to Sherrod. Sherrod volleyed the pass off the right goal post and into the back of the net. Sherrod’s second goal came after receiving a headed pass from Lewis Ellis. He slipped the ball past the keeper, giving Memphis the 2-1 lead with 15 minutes to go. The two-goal performance moved Sherrod into a tie, with Morton Akerfors (1987), for the second most goals scored in a season. Sherrod only trails former Memphisgreat Sean Fraser’s 2001 total by a goal. On the same goal, Liam Collins moved into a tie with Rogerio Lima (1996) and David Jackson (1984) for the third most assists in a season. Hall-of-Famer Dayton O’Brien recorded 14 in 2004 and Lima tallied 12 in 1997. Conor Hurley posted his tenth win of the season, the most since Sebastian Vecchio recorded 15 in 2004
