Senior forward Parker Duncan netted two goals in the victory as Memphis continued its dominance over Lipscomb with a perfect 6-0-0 record. Duncan’s first goal opened the scoring in the game when sophomore forward Mark Sherrod found him streaking into the box for a score past the defenseless Lipscomb goalkeeper. Sherrod scored the game-winning goal on a header off of a corner kick served by sophomore midfielder Liam Collins. Junior midfielder Andreas Guentner took a pass from junior defender Jordan Johnson and sent a rocketed shot past the goalkeeper to give Memphis the 3-1 lead. The last score of the game came when Duncan collected a Thomas Shannon penalty kick that was deflected off the post and sent it to the back of the net. Memphis and Belmont met last season at Mike Rose Soccer Complex. Duncan, sophomore midfielder Liam Collins and sophomore forward Austin Gross tallied goals for the Tigers in the 4-1 Tiger win.

Impact Players

• “Dunc”ing Lipscomb Senior forward Parker Duncan tallied two goals in the opening game of the 2011 season in a 4-1 victory over Lipscomb. Duncan scored the opening goal off a pass from Mark Sherrod and beat the defenseless keeper. Duncan gathered a deflected ball in the box and sent it to the back of the net for his second goal in the 86th minute.

Memphis Tigers

• A Baker’s Dozen Memphis had seven players tally a total of 13 points in the contest against Lipscomb. Duncan led the pack with four points recorded off of his two goals. Mark Sherrod posted a goal and assist for three points. Andreas Guentner posted two points for his goal. Liam Collins, Cody McCoy, Jordan Johnson and Thomas Shannon all tallied a point for their assists. • Grant Nears Wins-Mark Head coach Richie Grant, with 108 wins as coach of the Memphis Tigers, stands just two wins shy of tying Chris Bartels as the all-time leader in victories as coach of the men’s soccer team. Grant, the third coach in the 29 year history of the program, is entering his 13th season at the helm of Tigers soccer. • Take Two! Memphis has won its last 19 games, including the 4-1 Lipscomb win, when scoring at least two goals. The streak stretches back to the 2007 season, when the Tigers played to a 3-3 tie against then No. 14 Tulsa. Excluding ties, the Tigers are unbeaten in a total of 26-straight games when tallying two goals. Memphis’ last loss when scoring at least two goals occurred in 2006 at the hands of Creighton (Nov. 7) by a score of 2-3.

Alex Jennison So., Defender 1 goal, 1 SOG, 33 minutes

• The Tigers vs. The Bruins Memphis has played Belmont 11-times in their history. Including last season’s 4-0 victory in the season-opener, the Tigers are 10-1-0 all-time against the Bruins. Memphis has outscored Belmont 43-6 in the series. • Scouting Belmont Despite being outshot 19-5, Belmont defeated Missouri State 2-1 in their season opening game on Saturday. With just 17 seconds remaining in regulation, Brandon Tarr headed home the game-winner. Junior goalkeeper Lou Manning posted six saves to earn the decision for the Bruins. • U of M Looking to Build Upon Late 2010 Successes Despite a disappointing 5-11-1 record in 2010, the Tigers finished the season with back-to-back wins against Alabama A&M and UAB. Memphis won the two games by a combined score of 10-0. Using the results of the 2010 season as motivation, the Tigers put in additional work during the off-season, including several player led workouts in the winter snow.
