Heading Into the Match-Up With Marshall:
Memphis dropped a decision, 3-2, to South Carolina on Saturday night at Mike Rose Soccer Stadium. Sophomore Mark Sherrod continued his hot start to the season with a pair of goals in the game. Sherrod scored on a header in the 35th-minute, when he drilled-home a ball played in the box by Liam Collins. Sherrod connected again in the 49th-minute on a header. Collins and Jordan Johnson assisted on the play. South Carolina rallied to score three goals, all on set-pieces, in the last 20 minutes of the game. Memphis fell to 5-2-1 and 0-1-0 in Conference USA play on the season. For Sherrod, the two-goal performance increased his season total to eight goals and 17 total points. Collins has now totalled six assists on the season, while Johnson recorded his second assist.
Player Spotlight
Mark Sherrod Sophomore Forward Mark Sherrod has continued his torrid, goal-scoring pace on the season. Sherrod collected a pair of headers in Saturday’s game against South Carolina. Prior to Saturday’s game, the striker from Knoxville, Tenn., was already listed among the nation- and conference-leaders in goals scored, goals per game, points, and points per game. He has tallied eight goals on the season, giving the redshirt sophomore 12 for his career. -1-
