2 After starting the season 7-0 for the for the first time in program history, the University of Memphis women’s soccer team looks to close the non-conference slate with a unblemished 8-0 mark. 2 The U of M has scored 20 goals this season coming from 11 different players. The 20 goals in the first seven matches are the most since the 2005 season when the squad had 21 goals. The 20 goals are tied for the second-most all-time. 2 Memphis defense held opponents scoreless in four-straight games, but even though the streak was ended Sunday, the Lady Tiger defense can hang its hat on a record performance. Memphis didn’t allow a goal in 441:25 of play from the last 10 minutes of the UALR match to the goal scored by Charlotte on Sunday. The mark is the longest streak in program history.

2 Memphis and Vanderbilt meet for the just the third time on Thursday. The Commodores earned wins in the previous meetings and this year’s clash is the first meeting since the 2001 season. Vanderbilt won the lone meeting at the Vanderbilt Soccer Complex 3-0 in 1999.

SCOUTING VANDERBILT 2 The Commodores enter Thursday’s matchup with a 5-1 mark on the season. Vanderbilt has won three-straight matches, including a 1-0 victory over Middle Tennessee on Friday. Vanderbilt’s lone loss came against Missouri State. 2 Candace West leads the Commodores with three goals on the season. Five different players have scored the eight goals for Vanderbilt. 2 Brittanie Barbero and Alexa Levick have split time in net for Vanderbilt. Levick has made four of the six starts this season.

2 Memphis opened the season with identical 3-1 victories over LSU and UALR at Mike Rose Soccer Complex. The Lady Tigers hit the road for a three-game road trip and earned three shutout victories. A fourth-straight shutout against rival Ole Miss put Memphis a 6-0 and a convincing victory over Charlotte puts the Lady Tigers at 7-0. 2 The 7-0-0 start to the regular season is the best start in program history and the sevengame win streak is tied for the longest in program history.

RECORD BOOK REWRITE 2 Redshirt-senior goalkeeper Elise KuharPitters began her fifth season in net for the Lady Tigers on the cusp of breaking multiple goalkeeping records. Just seven matches into the season, Kuhar-Pitters owns three of the five goalkeeping records at the U of M. With her third-straight shutout at Western Kentucky on Sept. 4, Kuhar-Pitters broke Isabel Birones’ record for shutouts and victories in a career. Kuhar-Pitters has 27 career shutouts and 42 victories and program-best 0.86 goals-against average. Kuhar-Pitters is also in the top-five in saves and minutes played.

REMEMBER SEPTEMBER 2 With all the success in August in the past several seasons, what has the U of M done in the month of September? In the last four seasons, including three games this season, Memphis is 22-11-0 in the month of September. Last season, Memphis was 4-3 in September.

CLEAN SHEET 2 In the past five matches, Memphis has held opponents to just 12 shots on goal and recorded four shutouts. In the last three seasons, Memphis has 28 shutouts and has back-to-back shutouts 10 times. The four-straight shutout streak earlier this season was the first four-game shutout streak and the 441:25 scoreless streak by opponents was the longest streak in program history.

BALANCED OFFENSE 2 Thus far, Memphis has scored 20 goals in seven matches, but more importantly 11 different players have scored those 20 goals. After the 6-2 victory over Charlotte on Sunday, seven different players have scored two or more goals this season. The Lady Tigers have 15 assists on the 20 goals and nine different players have recorded assists. Six different players have attempted 10 or more shots while 10 players have five or more shots. The offense ranks 17th in the NCAA statistical release, averaging 2.86 goals per game.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK 2 Breaking the career shutouts and victories marks by a goalkeeper in the program record book, Elise Kuhar-Pitters was named the C-USA Defensive Player of the Week by the league office on Sept. 5. 2 The selection was the 15th time a U of M student-athlete has earned defensive player of the week honors. 2 It was also the third-straight selection for the U of M this season. Lizzy Simonin and Christie Kline earned defensive player of the week honors in week one and two, respectively. The three-straight selections mark the first time in program history that Lady Tigers were selected in consecutive weeks.

THREE...IS THE MAGIC NUMBER 2 When scoring three or more goals in a match, the U of M carries a 81-6-1 record all-time. Under Head Coach Brooks Monaghan, Memphis is 60-3-1. In the past four seasons in which Memphis has four-straight championships, the record when scoring three or more goals is 26-0-1.

2 Senior defender Lizzy Simonin was selected the Conference USA Preseason Defensive Player of the Year by the leagues 12 head coaches. Simonin is the reigning C-USA Defensive Player of the Year after moving from forward to defender last season. 2 Simonin was tabbed as one of 30 candidates for the Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award. The award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities. Simonin is the second Lady Tiger in the last two seasons to earn the honor. 2 Simonin was ranked 73rd in TopDrawerSoccer.com’s Preseason Top 100 Upperclassmen. The top 100 upperclassmen list will be updated throughout the season. 2 The NSCAA Top-25 Preseason Poll was released Aug. 9 and the Lady Tigers received votes. It is the second-straight season the U of M has opened the season in the polls whether ranked or receiving votes.

2 If you take a look at the Lady Tigers roster you will see seven players from various provinces of Canada. Various Canadians have played a major role in Memphis claiming four-straight C-USA Championships. Of the seven Canadians on the current roster, five of the seven have a combined 14 championship rings. Alex Craig and Kylie Davis are the newest members of Lady Tiger Soccer from Canada.

ANY GIVEN SUNDAY 2 Sunday’s have been a day of success for the Lady Tigers in the last four seasons as ‘Any Given Sunday’ normally results in a Memphis victory. Since the 2006 season, the U of M is 3410-3 in matches played on a Sunday. 2 Since the 2009 season, Memphis is 19-2-1 on Sunday’s. In that same span, the U of M has outscored opponents 53-11 on Sunday’s with 13 shutouts.

SENIOR SALUTE 2 Courtesy of research done by CollegeSoccer360.com, the Lady Tigers senior class is ranked 14th in the nation with 53 wins in their time at the U of M. In the three-plus seasons for the 2011 class, Memphis has posted records of 15-5-2, 16-7-0, 15-4-3 and a 7-0-0 record this season.

FRESHMAN SCORING 2 Freshmen have combined to score 22 of Memphis’ 55 points this season. Kelley Gravlin leads the cast of freshmen with seven points while Kaitlyn Atkins has six points on the season.

PUNCH THE TIME CARD 2 Senior Lizzy Simonin is the only Memphis player to play the full 630 minutes this season. Five other players have played 500 or more minutes this season, all in the midfield or defense.

SCOUTING MEMPHIS 2 Memphis began the 2011 season as winners of four-straight C-USA Tournament Championships. How many teams have accomplished such a feat? In NCAA Division I Women’s Soccer just 13 programs have claimed four or more consecutive conference championships. Memphis and Boston University of the American East Conference carry the nation’s longest active championship streak. 2 The Lady Tigers returned nine starters and 15 letterwinners from the 2010 squad. Led by C-USA Defensive Player of the Year Lizzy Simonin, the Memphis defense appears to be the strength of the club as the team readies for the 2011 season. 2 Nearly half of the roster this season is represented by newcomers with 15 players in their first season of collegiate soccer. Eight freshmen have seen minutes thus far, accounting for roughly 50 percent of the scoring.
