Women’s Tennis Set to Face Two Ranked Teams in Texas
The No. 31 University of Memphis women’s tennis team (4-2) returns to action on the road Sunday and Monday to take on No. 40 TCU (3-4) and No. 75 SMU (1-4) in two 12 p.m. (CT) matchups. Memphis’ match against TCU will take place at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center while the match against SMU will be held at the Northwood Country Club. Last week, the Lady Tigers extended their school record home win streak to 35 matches with sweeps over Murray State and Chattanooga. Sophomore Caroline Wegner continued Memphis’ streak of American Athletic Conference player of the week awards by getting the nod, the fourth straight for the Lady Tigers. Memphis jumped two spots this week in the ITA poll to No. 31 while three Lady Tigers appeared in the individual rankings. Senior Stefanie Mikesz returned to the singles rankings for the first time since her sophomore season, coming in at No. 99 in the nation with a 12-4 mark this season. In doubles, the duo of Wegner and Alyssa Hibberd ranked No. 38 in the country as they hold a 14-7 record this year with three wins over top-35 opponents. Wegner and Mikesz also were recognized with a No. 40 national ranking.

After a 3-0 start to the season, injuries have plagued TCU recently as the Horned Frogs’ No. 1 (Stefanie Tan) and No. 2 (Simona Parajova) players have been sidelined with injuries. Tan is ranked No. 52 in this week’s ITA poll with an 18-4 record on the season. SMU is on a four-match losing streak and has played its last three matches without No. 108 Vaszilisza Bulgakova, the team’s No. 1 player. The Mustangs have dropped matches to nationally-ranked teams in Texas Tech and LSU while falling 4-3 to Northwestern State and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. Up Next for Memphis
