MEMPHIS PLAYS CONFERENCE USA ROAD OPENER AT SMU WEDNESDAY The University of Memphis squad (12-3, 1-0 CUSA), still in the Also Receiving Votes of both national polls, travels to Dallas, Texas, on Wednesday, Jan. 12 to face SMU (9-6, 0-1 C-USA). Game time is 7 p.m. (CT), and the contest is set to air on Time Warner Texas Channel. Wednesday’s encounter is the Conference USA road opener for the Tigers, while it is the C-USA home opener for the Mustangs. Memphis opened C-USA play Jan. 8 with a 61-58 home victory over East Carolina. After closing a five-game homestand over the holidays, Memphis played its first road game of the season Jan. 5 at Tennessee. The Tigers dropped a 104-84 decision to the Volunteers. In the five-game homestand, Memphis posted a 4-1 record with wins over Austin Peay Dec. 16, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Dec. 20, Lipscomb Dec. 30 and Tennessee State Jan. 2 and a loss to No. 10/9 Georgetown Dec. 23.
